Ok guys. I'm a noob. I've said it up front. I've also had a look around the board and seen there's various options for getting the best output possible from a PAL N64 - but I'd like a definitive discussion for a n00b like me. Anyway, I want to mod my PAL N64 as well as another for a friend's Christmas present - what is my best course of action? (I'm not opposed to paying someone else to do it if it's deemed too hard for me!) Ideas please! Thanks a bunch guys.
You could RGB mod it but that's a massive pain and people tend to be of the opinion that its not as massive an improvement as it is for other consoles. You can get s-video without modding as long as you get a correctly wired s-video cable.
There is a place where you can get RGB boards for the n64 without the right DAC. The process is done and shop link is in the description, in the video below though he speaks german and shop is in german http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7g5IhRLDUhw
Hmm, seen it done without the board and... it doesnt look so good but i guess it works. Im thinking of maybe getting a prototype board made if its not too costly, just need a *Edit* gerber file and other files to get a board made.
You need a schematic (which is online) to make a PCB in some PCB CAD software, which outputs in gerber format. Not a gerber schematic.
"Gerber file"... I knew it was file type for schematics but i thought it was a schematic software name as well.
I had these made recently. PCB from PCB-pool (excellent quality), idea and code from Tim and designed & assembled by a local friend. I haven't had time to cross-check with the nfg one yet, but it's probably very similar in design. I've installed it in ten PAL units and it seems to be working fine.
