Hey guys, please forgive me if this has been covered before (you can imagine the fun in searching NES region free PAL/NTSC).

The question is which is best for modding for region free, a PAL or NTSC NES?

My PAL console is region free and I have a handful of NTSC games, 2 didn't work (Raid on Bungling Bay and Skyshark).

I have had the opportunity recently to fix up a NTSC NES (it was missing the controller port surround and needed the 72 pin connector seen to) and while I was at it I region free modded it. I tried a PAL Super Mario Bros in it and the music was quite fast, it kinda reminded me of that movie "There's something about Mary" when that old love accidentally gets swallows speed. I tried a few other games and they didn't sound so bad.

I have read people do it to PAL machines as the NTSC games are much cheaper so that is the advantage there.

So what are other's thoughts NTSC or PAL?

Honestly, since the audio gets jacked up when you region-free a NES (either faster or slower, depending on which region), I found it to be better to just buy an NTSC NES and be done with it. You get cheaper games, and you don't have to worry about the half-assed ports the PAL NES was lousy with.
