That uses a Sony CXA2075 ;) You can create your own for $25 maybe.

Anyone know of a retailer for those in the US? I've searched and never found one.

That's a Sony CXA1145 and it's not so good. The 1645 or 2075 are much better, but harder to find in the wild. You can destroy an early model PlayStation or a Saturn for those.

But there are other RGB->S-Video options:

    www.jrok.com
    www.crazearcade.com
    www.neobitz.com

As a bonus, the NeoBitz encoder also outputs component video! Each of these encoders offers certain benefits over the others.

1645 and 2075 is new ver and it support over 2.5-25.5kHz sync( beside that , there is not much different with old 1145/16145)
with out talk CXA, i also like use LM1881 do alot fun.:p
www.jrok.com <---- that one also good, but i don't like it have not much truning

well. some people will ask....with out XRGB no another good upscan ?
answer is "no" at list you cost is around US$300
next level is DVDO upscan+ $it like US$800-$1300
boardcast level is SONY DSC-1024HD US$3000

some people will think ViewSonic N6 also is cool
    but my answer is "no"
it use another hardware. retime reside video to VGA1280x1024, and the graphic ugly than XRGB1.
there is N6 open case pic.

PCE systems never had Sony CXA chips in them. If they did it'd make them much easier to mod for S-Video. LM1881 chips are not video encoders like the CXA chips, they are merely sync separators that are used with the CXA or other encoders.

The JROK does have "tuning". There are 3 potentiometers right on the board for adjusting RGB.

Thanks Hi_ricky, your pictures are valuable. If possible, please leave the pictures up.

How would you compare the viewsonic N6 to the xrgb2 as far as quality?
