Im trying to decide if i just should order the Mega Everdrive board and just fix my own shell. But i have some questions. I have a Megadrive, obviously PAL. Will the Mega Everdrive board fit in a PAL shell without any modding of the shell? Also i dont really like the idea of the SD card sticking up at the top of the shell, sure its so much easier if you need to add more stuff to the SD card. But I wanted to know if the Mega Everdrive board fits into a EA Games Shell, the are much taller then the standard shells. This way the board and the Sd Card would be completely hidden inside the shell. Is this possible? Has anyone tested this? And also its said that the Mega Everdrive has support for Micro Sd? Where do you insert the Micro Sd card? I have only seen photos of Sd Cards, no Micro Sd cards. Thanks!
The mega everdrive has both a standard SD card slot and a micro SD slot. If you use a micro SD card, you can use a standard size genesis/megadrive shell without having to cut an opening, like you would if you wanted to use a standard SD card. I believe the micro SD slot is on the opposite side of the board as the standard SD slot. It's nice if you want a more clean look without an SD card sticking out, but means you need to open up the cart any time you want to add/remove ROMs or do a firmware update. I'm not sure if a standard or ea games genesis/megadrive shell needs to be modified internally to accommodate the mega everdrive board, though.
PCB will not fit in EA shells. screw hole placement is different. Using Micro SD on a standard cart shell will keep it hidden without needing to cut it up. As for the SMS pause button, you can cut it down some if you don't want it sticking out either but then you can't pause SMS games.
Well it does but can be picky. I have four adapters and three are el cheapo no name ones and they dont work all the time. Sometimes I have to pull out the card and re-insert them and it works but then it will stop working. Now I do have one that came with my class 1032gb microSD and that adapter has NEVER failed me so I stick to that. I think it is the build quality of the adapter not the EVERdrive itself. But yes they do work but the largest I have tried is a 32gb and it works fine. I normally use an 8gb as it fits all my ROMs and is fail proof so far. Krizz has totally made the best flash cart ever. It out performs all my others I have bought in the past hands down.
atreyu187, I have a 2gig Micro SD card here. And all the GoodGEN roms takes about 1gig unzipped. So I guess you dont need more than 2gig. Also the Master System roms are very small. Yes but it still haven't figured out where to insert the Micro Sd card! Is it the same slot as the regualar SD card? If so there is no problem. I would like to see a photo of someone using a MICRO SD card on a Mega Everdrive. I just figured it would be tough to insert and remove a Micro SD card when you have a shell? So thats why i asked about the Sd adapter
In that case, I use a Sandisk adapter on my Everdrive MD with my micro card. Probably a Chinese clone but I've never had a problem with it.
That's it at the top-right. The normal SD slot is on the backside of the PCB in the same general area. I don't see why you couldn't cut a spot out for access to the Micro SD slot, it's just that it was mainly meant as an option for people who didn't want to hack up a cart case.
Oh so the Micro SD slot is on the BACKside of the board, that explains why i didn't find it when i looked at the photos. Thanks Evil Homer for the photo and info!
... Standard SD is on the back of board. Micro is on the front. Before anyone asks, no you can't use both slots at the same time. They both go the same points on the board. Gotta use one or the other.
Just wanted to chime in and say that if you don't plan on cutting up a shell, you'd have to desolder the SMS pause button from the cart. You might be able to file it down, but it would likely be easier to simply remove entirely.
My 2 cents is that if anyone is like me and scared about cutting shells and such, just order a cart with shell. The shell supplied by Dragonbox shop with mega everdrive readily installed in it was very nice indeed: Actually I´m looking to get a 60Hz genesis instead of this md but it has worked ok for initial testing of mega everdrive
