Topic title pretty much tells what I desire. I had a 1.5 PSP since it's NA release, but it has been out of commision for about 5 years(?) due to a cracked screen. Anyway, I am looking to play a good majority of SNES classics on a handheld device that could possibly fit in my pocket or backpack. What provides the fastest/accurate emulation on such a device in this day and age? There is the PSP, which I am assuming provides even better emulation than it did half a decade ago. Does a better solution yet exist? My Samsung Galaxy Express can also emulate the SNES, but not to a satisfactory level and with no propriety game pad. The only alternatives I have seen are obscure handhelds like the GP2X or some Handheld SNES contraption.
If your phone is rooted, a MOGA pad works well with emulators like DroidEMU. Otherwise it would probably be less hassle to fix the PSP.
The only emulators on the vita are ones that run within the psp environment. They haven't found a hack to run emulators using the vita's full hardware. I would get a psp slim off of ebay and install cfw on it. Snes games will run at full speed or near full speed.
^ Yeah as he said but their emulator does actually run very great with speed & compatibility (sometimes) i recommend you checkout s9xTYLcm091127 mod r26 &/or s9xTYLmecm091127 mod r26 ;-) if you need download links here it is: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/88081634/s9xTYLcm091127_mod_r26.zip
I think the OP will have better luck emulating on his smartphone, since it is easily more powerful than a game system from 2005. I would support PSP emulation, but I've not had good experiences on my Go, as every game requires some tweaking.
Check out the GCW Zero, It's the spiritual successor to the Dingoo. It has a dpad and an analogue stick. http://www.gcw-zero.com/
Emulating old consoles is now best done on a good android phone along with a bluetooth controller. You Do Not need to rout the phone either. My Sharp is 2 years old in February with a 1.5 ghz dual core cpu. Yet plays Snes, MEGA Drive, neo geo, and even PlayStation perfectly! So if you have a good enough android phone you are good to go for some serious classic gaming.
Main problem with android phones is to make stuff comfortable - separate pad and phone isn't a great way to play games (unless you are four-handed guy). Well, in my case i got Galaxy Note with broken case and semi-broken PCB (GSM module randomly disconnecting), so i made a pocket console using some parts from various broken consoles or replacement parts (3DS analog sticks and buttons, digital stick from dead NGP, PS3 controller PCB and wireless keyboard). Works like a charm. But if you want to avoid any DIY stuff, then PSP or one of those Android consoles will be just what you need. GCW Zero too.
That's why you use a controller that has a holder for the phone making it in to an all in one unit. I use this controller with my phone - http://www.theverge.com/2012/9/21/3367188/shintec-sma-con-android-game-controller
