I'm planning to pick up a new Gamecube, and I want to play games from the US and Japan on it, but without the nuisance of a swap disc. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'd like to avoid mod chips that try and fuck around with the bios menu -- I want this thing to function exactly as a normal Cube would, just without the region lock. The chip that usually gets brought up is the XenoGC, but I'm not sure if that's the easiest way to get things done, and I'm not sure if it'd do the aforementioned mucking with the bios.
For the OP the best solution is to go buy a Action Replay Disc with Freeloader. That's what I did when I got my Gamecube back in 2007 when I wanted to play a Japanese game soooo badly. Direct from the manufacturer: http://us.codejunkies.com/products/gcn-freeloader---usa__ef000199.aspx Or Amazon Don't be surprised if some Japanese games start displaying weirder text on screen, because some fonts are tied to the GC Bios Region.
If you don't care about pal (no one likes us :,( ... ) you can install a region switch but yeah AR is best if you don't want to mod the system
OP never said he didn't want to mod the system, he just didn't want it messing with the boot up menu (like the Qoob does). He also said that he finds swap discs a nuisance.
i honestly thinks the best solution would be the XenoGC as it only touches the DVD Drive and not the Bios, i would really work as close as a normal GC (it just boot backups and import)
Sounds like what I want. I wasn't sure if XenoGC messed with the bios at all, because of some of the features the thing has like the multi-game disc loader.
