The battery in my Super Mario All-Stars cart died some time ago and I lost my savegame. Therefore I decided to backup the savegames of my other SNES cartridges. I have several copiers and flashcarts in my collection, but it I haven't found a solution which is compatible with all my games. This is my experience so far:

    Super UFO Pro 8 SD:
It's possible to backup the cart's SRAM to the internal memory of the SuperUFO and then you can transfer it to SD card. It's also possible to do it the other way round. Unfortunately it does not recognise the SRAM of some games, e. g. Kirby 3, Kirby's Fun Pak and Yoshi's Island.

    Super Wildcard DX2:
Then I tried it with the old SWCDX2. The cartridge slot has problems to detect some of my cartridges, even after some extensive cleaning. Furthermore for some games it does say 'SRAM NO' under 'game info'. For example Stunt Race FX, which indeed has SRAM. However I can still backup the SRAM and the files on the floppy disk contain data. But this could be just garbage and I don't want to try out if the restore works.

    Neo SNES Myth SD:
It does have a function to backup the SRAM, but I haven't found a way to restore it the cartridge. So pretty useless if you want to replace the batteries.

    Retrode:
I don't own this adapter, but it's a lot of money for a device which can only be used to backup the ROM and SRAM.

Do you have any other suggestions to backup AND restore savegames on SNES carts?

I've used my Game Doctor SF7 to backup and restore saves before. You can always test the save backup in an emulator if you're worried about its integrity. That way you can at least be sure you've got a good save before attempting to restore it. I don't know of any relatively cheap methods of backing up SNES saves (are there any besides copiers or the retrode or POSSIBLY the retron 5?).

I use old copiers. Never had a problem but never tied Stunt Race FX as I don't have it. Any other games it has problems with?
