I have a faulty PS3 40GB phat which I was given to "see what you can do" to fix it.. it has a YLOD on boot. I've seen there are various ways to re-flow the board, but which option do you guys recommend? I've seen people have used heat guns, ovens, you name it.. but which is the best way to get it done by your opinions? I have access to a heat gun & oven, but I'm open to ideas. Also, I noted that this PS3 was pretty dust free, the only thing that seemed dodgy was the clips that are screwed down over the RSX & Cell were not really clamping down the CPU & RSX, they were quite loose.
Remove case, remove all screws in sight. Dismantle down to major components.. MB, PSU, Optical Drive, Fan. Sell parts on ebay > use money towards new slim. Sorry mate, I couldnt recommend any DIY repair on the PS3. It really does require professional rework. First thing to do though, would be to check all the fuses on the top side of the board. You might get lucky..
