Natural selection of the IT world. Why don't you try using your computer a little more responsibly? Anyway, seeing as you don't have a disc, maybe you still have a warranty on the thing? Send it in for "repairs".
some questions to see if i can figure out exatct problem to try and help and A few suggestions you migh try. 1.Can you borrow a copy of xp from a friend and use repair console 2. Is there another computer you can try the hard disk in to see whats miss ing and if you can recover the files/folders lost, maybe a friends computer or something. 3. as post above is there still a warranty on it. 4. Question: how far does the pc boot up before the error screen appears. 5. Question: What is the exact error message
Only time I have lost a windows folder was when trying to install windows98 on a Libretto 70ct (actually, it was XxHennersXx...) Damn that was a long process... Going from DOS (serveral versions) to Windows 95 (For pcmcia cdrom support, 28 custom made install floppies... *shudder*) then windows98 (had copied the install CABs from the disk to the HD in win95) *cough* Enough story. Snag a XP copy from a friend. Just be careful with some burned copies. I've had activation keys not work on certian copies (legit keys, downloaded disks) My preferred method (because I dont like to mess around with wonky fixes): -remove the hard drive -place it into another computer with a functioning operating system -backup all of your data -reinstall windows -Restore your backed up data (I usually just do it either directly from the other computer's HD or through a network folder, but the first is alot faster.) I've also use linux live CD's to make copies to another HD/Networked computer. Almost suggested a repair install, but I have had bad experiences with them. Its not if they will fail, but when. Oh, fun thing with windows XP. As long as you don't make significant changes to your system (new HD, motherboard, massive hardware upgrade, etc) then you can go into the C:\windows\system32 folder and backup the file wpa.dbl. Reinstall and then copy the file into the system32 folder and you won't have to reactivate (usually.)
