Yeah, I'm a moron for buying a first gen one, but I still think for $500, it shouldn't have had as many problems as it did. 1: Buttons unresponsive 2: Software is shitty (had it reinstall the driver a multiple times) 3: Stops playing sometimes (eg: when jogging) 4: Accessories about 3x what their price should be 5: Accessories are shitty quality. Headphones broke in two months 6: Battery life. 7: iTunes require a 3Ghz dual processor Xeon w/ a gig of memory to run I'm praying that mine is not now in one of it's many temporamental modes, and is actually dead (it won't turn on after I put it in the craddle to load some songs) so I can justify buying another brand for the car. Anyone else with me?

Ipods suck ass. They're just a useless overpriced status symbol. I hope you can exchange it for something that works. I fucking hate Ipods. And I'm not alone in Fucking Hating Ipods.
You'll need at least SSE2, which means a P4 or athlon 64, or to use PPC apps, SSE3, which is only on pretty recent chips (Can't remember which off the top of my head)
Pentium 5 LGA CPUs have SSE3 as well as the Venice core Athlon 64 CPUs and X2 dual core cpus. Its in the news that Apple is planning on using Intel CPUs in their future Macs but their OS will still be incompatible with Windows programs, etc.
Well my laptop is only P3, will have to stick one of my spare hard drives in my girlfriends P4 laptop.
Yer, I'm desperate to do so, I tried in VMware, but with an Athlon Xp I'm buggered really. Gotta try to nick someones computer to give it a go on.
Umm i will try out once i get a spare hd. Last time i tried a new os i lost ALL of my documents! ALWAYS to remember to actually back things up and not just zip them and put it on the desktop for burning.
I will be writing the image to hard drive in about 10 minutes, I will try it in both laptops just to see what happens. If it burns quick enough, I will update before I go to bed in an hour or two.
