I was searching today for nintendo 64's obsure peripherial, named Bio-sensor, which was produced by SETA and was a bundle with the japanese game Tetris 64, and i stumbled upon THIS awesome video.
Apparently some japanese guys did some serious motion capture work in the 80s and made a nice little film about it which i thought it would be worth for some to see.
Its kinda obsure and worth your while since most films in the 80s didnt use 3D animation and motion capture, but mostly animatronics + partial 3D effects.

I have something even older to blow your mind with.

Biotetris is something to play! It sure teaches one to relax.

    Awesome!:love2: Mind=Blown
Is this pic from the 60s? It is very interesting and from what i understand it is 2D motion tracking! (since 3D rendering and depicting was not possible at that time)
Imagine if mario was made with motion tracking. It would be so totally funny (+awesome).

Wow, some of that stuff from the late 70's and early 80's is amazing. God only knows how long they took to render.

Here's a few more worth checking out. By todays standards they're nothing special mind you.

VintageCG has some really good stuff in his channel to talk about.
Every single video Yakumo provided is stunning for its age, especially Triple 1.

Amazing how far we've come in 20-30 years. Too bad it's all over in 2012.

That Golgo 13 video reminded me of why you don't mix cell & CG so non-seamlessly. Anyone see GiTS 2.0? Would rather watch 1.0.

Couldn't have said it better myself.
This thread has some very interesting stuff in it. Never knew they were tinkering with this 30 years back.

BTW, the N64 Bio-Sensor was released in Japan right? I remember it supposedly being compatible with the 3D Tetris or whatever.

Yeah it was japan only and only compatible with TETRIS 64 (biotetris mode).
I just bought a lot of 24 mint N64 games for 100 euros and it had a boxed
Bio-Sensor inside and i did a little research to find out Wth it is.

I've been wondering if the below link is actually from 1972.
    1972 CG Animation! 1972!!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SPMFhcC4SvQ&feature=related

The reason for this is because most if not all computer 3D models of the time seemed to be in wire frame running at only a few frames per second yet this model is fully polygon generated with shading and lighting and in real time if that lip sync has anything to say.

Where are the in-between stages from vector graphics to this fully Saturn and playststion quality polygon model? Where are the very crude block like faces? Actually when was the first ever polygon model ever made? Does anyone have any video links that pre- date 1972?

I think I saw some polygonal stuff in a book that was supposedly from the 1960's. Not videos, though, just pictures.

It's amazing how much people were able to do with such limited processing power.

Now that video was amazing, thanks for sharing that MoBoRoS! And I had totally forgotten about the N64's Biosensor's existance :p

Those other vids Yakumo posted look quite stunning for the time they were made!

There's no reason why it would be in real-time. The video would be sequenced to fit the recorded voice.

    Still incredibly impressive, mind.

I'd never actually heard of 2.0 as distinct from 2. I'll have to check it out.

I bought Tetris 64 with the bio sensor off eBay a couple years ago. Had to chisel/drill the two ends that stuck up on my N64 just to play the game(and nearly destroyed the system). Careful of that lol. Good game. Though I do think it has a bit of a lag reading your ear rate and having that register with the game.

2.0 = 2 i think. They are not different. The original names of the movies are GitS 1.0 and GitS 2.0. (meaning 1 and 2 respectively)

Thnk you for your kind words, Tchoin! Glad you liked.

For how much lag are we talking about here? Miliseconds or whole seconds? I kinda excuse Seta, because using scientific instruments on a game is kinda difficult and it was for the first time. It is still impressive for its time though just like the retro 3D vids.

No. There's a remake of the first film which is called 2.0. I'd not heard of it before, but it definitely exists.

I have the Bio Sensor and Tetris64, too. However I don't see any increase or decrease in the speed of the game when I'm moving :(
