i was looking at Bioshock at gamespot and i came across this. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/bioshock/news.html?page=1&sid=6110044&tag=result;title;8 the game looked so much different back in 2004. I was wondering if there are any known prototypes of this game or if any has information on things that may have been taken out of the game. I know from screenshots that there was going to be a Bigdaddy that had some sort of piston arm but that's all I could find.

I remember reading somewhere that at one point it was going to take place on an island populated by nazis, besides that I don't think there is much known about early plans for the game. Irrational announced the game, and then went silent for a long time. I believe by the time they did another proper update that game was pretty far along.

There's a couple of interviews with Ken Levine where he talks a little about bioshocks early development. I think links to both of them were posted on kotaku so you might search there.

edit: the only thing I can think of that's been removed was that the little sisters could be hurt or killed like any other npc in the game. Though I guess you could say that "feature" was changed more then removed.

It also says in that article that the game was going to take place in current times and that Rapture (it doesn't call it that, though) was abandoned in WWII. That would've been a completely different game.

On the "Making of" DVD (which was basically a bunch of interviews) someone mentioned a prototype they had running on the original Xbox. From what I gathered, though, they either lost the prototype or simply got rid of it.

Hmmm very interesting indeed! I would like to know more about what cut from the game and anything more about old prototypes because I really like the first idea mentioned in the article and it could be made in to a completely different game I think so it could still be re usable.

This is somewhat tangential, but does anyone know if there are multiple endings to the game? That is, is there a good/bad ending, and what determines which ending you'll get if this is the case?

I think there are only 2 endings. Good ending if you save all the little sisters and a bad (or worse) ending if you kill them all.

Someone might want to confirm that though as I have only beat the game once and I saved them all.

I've heard about a third ending, but two of the movie files seem to be the same (Harvested Gatherers vs. Killed Gatherers). Killed Gatherers is smaller than the other, though, and stopped mid-way through... kind of weird.

    *Spoilers????????
There are 3 endings: the good ending, the evil ending, and the sad ending, which is basically the same as the evil ending except Tenenbaum talks with a sad voice instead of an upset voice

So what prompts the sad ending, if you harvest some, but not all, of the little sisters?

I guess from now on we'll have people hunting it down. Seems seriously negligent of a development company to do either A or B lol

I believe on one of Major Nelson's podcasts they briefly hit on the subject in an interview about this. I think. I might be crazy.
