I recently purchased a white Sega Satern (via auction) from a seller on ebay, he had a what appears to be a good rating with 650+ feedback score and its 100% positive. The auction stated: It seemed well, I bid and won, payed and sent trough a message to confirm my shipping address, but immediately after paying he messaged me: I immediacy messaged him stating that I wasn't happy that the console was cracked ,and that I asked him to take a photo of the damage to see how bad it was and how much he will be willing to "mark off" from the total. Now this is where the problem comes in before I could possibly have time to respond(literally hours) he marked the item as shipped , and then afterwords messaged me with a picture (see attachment) So he's only offering me $5 off for the damage , is it worth it, as I cant tell him now that I don't want it any more because according to ebay he allready shipped the item, or how ebays dispute system works if it actually gets to that, because I dont know if $5 is reasonable as I didn't want the console to have cosmetic damage. PS the original auction link is here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220797401759 I payed $23.80 and $32 shipping
Thats not too bad. If your a perfectionist I wouldn't go for it but for an extra $5 off thats not bad. I'd buy it. Its at the back too so it won't be on show if you're playing it.
This still seems fishy though, seems to me he forced you to take it, not giving you a choice. I would have told him nevermind right away and demanded a refund for him leaving information out he probably knew about in the first place. You shouldn't have gave him a chance to send you a picture. He's demanding you to give positive feedback or you wont get the 5 dollars? Screw him, give him negative feedback.
Good deal or not, he knew what he was doing, he purposely trapped him in to avoid a full refund. Then he's saying either you give positive feedback (which he shouldn't get) or he wont get the five dollars. Out of principal, I would have skewered his feedback, because he did something out of line knowing that a lot of people would have asked for a full refund. -- CK
personally i would take the $5 mate, its possible he hadnt noticed it originally or he did it after, dont like how he just sent the console without showing you the pic first but everyone is different, personally i would just accept it and move on
He SHOULD have showed the picture before he shipped it, therefore, he knew what he was doing was wrong. This isn't an oops, it's messed up, I'll send you a pic, type of accident. This is shown by the fact he shipped it before sending the picture. Five dollars isn't a huge deal, if you're not hurting for money and every little dollar helps, screw his feedback, good deal or not, we all know what he really deserves. I'm not saying do this out of spite, I'm saying to give him negative feedback so a future buyer of his wont end up in a similar situation and get trapped in. -- CK
It's a good price - you can't expect much for that. The piece is merely cosmetic - and if you stick it on a shelf, you won't see it at the back, anyway. If it's for use merely as a machine to play games, then the $5 off is a good deal. If it's for a collection, why the hell are you buying a cheap, unboxed console with no leads in the first place? Basically, you knew you were buying a cheap Saturn and getting a good deal. I think it was an honest situation that he didn't notice the damage - he was good enough to tell you and offer a discount. I appreciate that you may not have wanted it shipped, but to be honest, you could still say it wasn't as described and was returned for a refund, so I don't see what you're complaining about. TAKE THE OFFER!!
Take the $5 but ask that it be given now and not later, tell him if he does not you will open a paypal dispute over it. You got a good deal and $5 should be taken but you should not have to put up with BS of getting it after feedback is left. I know ebay is ****ed but I feel the seller was trying to pull a fast one on you.
He just responded. I think Im going to take it it is cheap enough, Im just upset that he didnt include the info in the actual auction thats all, but it would make a good addition to my consoles , and if he just so much as gives me a bit of greef I'll file a dispute as he is not supposed to mark a item shipped if it has not been, let alone give a bad description. My Response: THANKS EVERYONE FOR THE HELP!!! PS Retro, it is for playing and my collection, I really wouldn't mind paying $100+ for a sealed console for my collection I just cant afford paying a further $80+Insurance to get it here, plus take a gamble with shipping(there really bad here in RSA), and locally sega machines just dont come up for auction or sale, and I've never seen a boxed unit , but I can understand that it might sound a bit silly in my post.
Well, I'd never buy a loose console for my collection unless it was something super rare - which this isn't. You can get boxed but opened units very easily - they come up on eBay a lot, or Yahoo Japan.... or from a dealer in Japan. If you want it for a collection, then a loose machine (especially white) is never going to be up to par. Anyway, glad you've decided to go for it. I would say he's genuine and honestly didn't notice the damage until he packed it. He didn't have to tell you at all, did he? Nor did he have to offer a discount. Try selling lots of items at once (I assume he's a trader) - it's time consuming enough listing and packing them without checking every detail. I'd say he informed you at the point where he noticed. If you're going to get into the collecting circle, you'll find people a lot less honest than this chap. I'd say he's one of the good guys.
Yea it probably wont ever be on par ,but like I said before the shipping and risk makes it out of my league. Atleast I do own a boxed blue halo 2 LE blue NTSC-J import and my last and current gen consoles are boxed, but there all not that rare, and I find them acceptable It probably was just a honest mistake I can see that it could have happened I was jsut paranoid because ebay showed it shipped. Thanks again for the help PS Will probably only be doing the more affordable side of the collection circle though , atleast for now, and this forum is probably one of the best resources out there
What retro said. The fact he even mentioned that chip after it was sold says he's pretty genuine. A saturn I bought was advertised with 3 games boxed and complete. It arrived in a vodka case (Not a full box) He had folded it and coated it in parcel tape so it was partially boxed. No protection on the saturn or boxes. The boxes were beaten to shit and wipeout didnt even have a box. It was stuck in the saturn and came loose from the spindle in transit. It showed up scratched and unworking. I asked for a partial refund because it was NOT as advertised. (one oif the games was complete and even then beaten to shit). He said ''Can't you just make it do'' At that point we just filed a dispute that we won and he said ''Just keep the fucking thing''.
I mark stuff as shipped when I have packed it and applied labels and its in my "to send pile" - this is so I know what is still "todo" as there is no way on ebay to mark as "packed - ready for shipping). So dont always take the shipping icon as actually shipped.
I only mark my international shipments as "shipped". Everything else gets marked automatically if you print a label through paypal/ebay... at least that's how it works in the states.
I once bought a $5 copy of HoTD3 for the XBox, got it and found it severly scratched but still playable and ripped without error. I complained and he offered a refund to return it but that was too much effort for a $5 game. Left him negative feedback instead as he didn't bother mentioning that the disc was scratched at all. Left me positive feedback claiming I was "crying about a $5 game". Glad he couldn't leave negative feedback.
