I have this psx sitting on my junk box for a long time. Today I decided to give it a go and check what's wrong with this console. So I power it on, and all I get is a black screen. If memory serves me right, someone tried to install a mod chip but messed up something in the wiring. Using a multimeter I ran a continuity check on the fuses. All of them except ps605 seem busted. Then I ran a voltage check on this and got 2.8 . Somewhere I read that it's normal reading should be 3.5 volts. Let's say it's just the fuses that are only blown. How and what should I use to swap them? I don't have the tools for smd soldering/desoldering, only a regular soldering iron. One last thing. I can see the laser powering on, but the mechanism and spindle stay idle.Using another laser assembly, gives me the same exact result.
You have several options now and the simpler one is replacing the bad fuses first, then powering it on and hoping all will be fine. If one or more fuses blow again, then some other components are bad and you need to check those. A good start would be transistors and voltage regulators. A thorough visual inspection should come first, of course. Edit: A trick to get bad 2 connections components off the board is adding a good blob of solder, so the solder touches both connections. Then you can simple push the component off the board with your iron. Clean up afterwards.
