New Blackberry (Bold, 8900, Storm, etc) vs iPhone... Anyone have user experiences with ether? Are they both good purchases? Or is one better than the other?

One is for work, one is for play. Simple as that.

The iphone makes a very poor business phone.

Although I have no experience with a Blackberry, I do love the Mobile Me (formerly .mac) feature of the iPhone everything staying so synced all of the time is really nice.

Although I'm sure there is a better alternative.

My work gave me a Blackberry Pearl to play around with... I know that's not one of the ones you listed, but on the offchance you were considering it - leave well alone. The keypad is a messy half-way attempt at qwerty, and its GUI was nasty as hell. I had various little connectivity issues as well.

Nothing more to add. I own an Blackberry Bold, and my father an iPhone, so I've used both; if you want a phone for working and you have to write a lot, nothing beats the Blackberry; if you want the best interface and multimedia stuff, iPhone.

I've had many Blackberrys and iPhones.

To date I like to go with a variation of your statement like..

    Blackberry = Better business phone.
iPhone - Casual use, playing around, etc. Great for teens.

But honestly don't even fucking bother with a Blackberry *touch* phone. A simple touch wont work, more like a *push* phone...

    iPhone for Macs.
Blackberry for Windows (especially Exchange based mail server companies).

While i haven't used an iPhone per say, I have used my wife's iPod Touch alot and I just wanted to say the web browser is fucking horible.

It makes great for quick viewing but horible for long use or actualy typing out post. The unit is only 2 months old and twice it's full on locked up while web browsing (once for me an once for my wife). When it locks up you can't do jack shit till the thing eventualy shuts down (which takes a really really really long time). Not to mention there are tons of times where i'm reading a website or typing something in and the thing just exits to the bios/root menu section for no reason. In doing so when launching the web browser again it reloads the page so anything I had typed is lost and my placement on the website is reseted to the top of the web page again. This really is anoying when you're reading rather large blogs.

Side apps how ever are pretty neat if you find useful ones like weather eye but general the selection of stuff on the app store is crap and if you don't know what you're looking for, you're never going to find anything.

    -- edit --
Small fyi, i'm currious/tempted to buy a blackbery bold to replace my SE P900. It's just getting really damn old.

How good are the face buttons on the bold? A huge issue I have with my p900 right now is the face buttons have worn out horibly so some buttons don't work well unless you press really hard, and my 6 button just doesn't work period.

I have a BB Curve 8300, I just love it, everything works perfectly. I used an iPhone for 5 minutes at most... hated it...

If you really wanted to keep your P900 buy a new set of face buttons. On ebay theres one for $25 and the keypad is designed to come off so only takes two tiny screws to remove it and reaplace it.

You could say that for almost all handheld web browsing devices. The problem is always going to be screen res and compatibility with flash/shockwave/java.

Part of the problem is the rigid framework websites deploy these days. There needs to be better scalability or dynamic site formats based on the browser that visits them.

No, I don't mean for browsing issues. Thats fine as most sites seem to work fine. My issue comes from the shitty ass browser it self not being stable. The browser on my PSP has far less stability issues then the one on the iphone. And i'm not viewing complex websites either.

With netbooks being cheap and fairly small, bluetooth being standard on a lot of phones, so it being possible to use a mobile phone as a modem to send emails where there is no wifi. Is there really any point to using a mobile device that's crippled to hell when you could use a proper machine and probably do work a bit faster?
