    Hello guys!

With all the retro revival consoles recently ranging from the pretty good (Neo Geo X, AtGames Megadrive) to the rather poor (Game Gadget) I was thinking isn't it time Blaze released another Sega console?

What got my mind working was the Kickstarter for Ouya and GameStick - these are open format consoles that use existing Android apps as their software range, why don't Blaze or someone release a Sega branded version?! Something with Marketplace support but also a Sega store with classic games from Master System all the way up to Dreamcast.....

    Now THAT would sell.

The biggest problem with these systems is that they're never as good as or even on par with the original hardware. They always have some issue that makes them not worth owning.

We don't need more shitty console clones...

The Super Joy NES NOAC clone is bad enough. The video is fine for being composite. It's the audio. Gots a low pitched hum to it. Annoying as fuck...

I'd personally buy a set up like the Neo Geo X but a Dreamcast version that had access to an Android store to buy more games.

Yeah I can't really see the point in re-releasing old games on new media, an internet based store would of been better and cheaper, and do we know if any shops in the UK will be selling the game cards? or do you have to buy them online anyway?

If only that Ouya console was a handheld because Android is very good for emulators (So you can play Sonic 3) and new games (So you can play Sonic 4) it'd be the ultimate retro gamer console.

Yeah that's what I mean, like Ouya but a Sega branded version.

Well seeing as Sega licensed their games and name out to Blaze and ATGames to make those crappy Mega Drive handhelds, I'm sure if someone designed and developed a handheld designed to be able to play old and new Sega games (and the Android store) they would licence their name and games to them as well.

Just a shame that nobody would ever get the money or team together to develop such a device. :'(

This thread was trolling from the moment the title was put in!!! Blaze are horrid and they make awful consoles with even worse controllers.

But seriously what will sell is the dinky crap already available for $40 at the shops, this will keep pumping out every year.

What the people on this forum want is a solid emulation or true to original 1chip device with controllers that are basically genuine quality.

That's why I said Android? There's surely a good enough emulator for each Sega system for the platform. I think actually as far as the 'people on this forum' go they're mostly interested in original legacy hardware not new emulation hardware but everyone has to face facts that machines don't last forever.

They don't last forever yeah, but unlike modern consoles they will surely last for at least 70+ years, all you'll need to do is change caps every 30 years or so. I have 80 years old radio that works perfectly with all original hardware (yes, even capacitors, but i will replace them to make it work even better).
P.S. Who needs crappy new hardware emulation when you can get proper software emulation or original hardware which is still pretty common stuff. I don't have anything against hardware emulation when it's something that won't kill your ears with awful sound and runs all games without glitches.

If you want portable emulation with good controls pick up an Xperia Play. Hardware is relatively cheap these days, slide out controls are solid and the various 8 and 16-bit emulators for it run nicely.

Why don't Nintendo Sega just make reruns of there old hardware nintendos sell fast snes is a great seller still now.

Game store near me sells snes with in one hour so if Nintendo remade a pile of them they would sell out again.

Just a thought that was on my mind.

This is all well and good, but what about later Sega's ? Saturn, Dreamcast? Once the CD unit has gone there isn't a lot your average joe gamer can do, sure there are loads of Dreamcast units still around but what about in 10 years? To be honest, mostly everyone has missed the point of what I'm saying.

im saying it'd be awesome to have a badass android based console like the Blaze ones (in concept, not functionality) but branded by Sega that only works with Sega games via an exclusive Android store compatible with on chip emulation made for the system.

think less AtGames Megadrive more Neo Geo X (except again, better functionality but no less fan service)

Sadly I don't think an ARM CPU would ever be able to emulate the Sega Saturn either accurately or quickly, as its hardware is just a load of chips just taken off the shelf, a very bad move because it made the Saturn's price hard to cut down or simplify so it would be pretty damn difficult to make a Saturn SoC, the Dreamcast maybe possible because it was a better, bespoke designed piece of hardware with simplicity in mind. The best bet would be to make the new hardware's CPU a Hitachi SuperH so it would then at least have some hardware compatibility with the 32X, Saturn and Dreamcast, but Android doesn't support the SuperH I don't think.

It's unlikely they'd be able to just do another run, replacements for obsolete parts would have to be sourced etc. It's just not worth their effort.

A lot of consoles have been cloned.

It's unlikely that Nintendo would do a better job, except maybe using the original case moulds.

I'd still like to see an on-chip SD compatible Dreamcast one day.... That machine deserves a second chance in some form or another.

^ Best bet is a small PC running a dedicated emulator. Maybe one of those Atom powered pocket PCs would be enough.
