So I bought one of these: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/i/photos/49302281/p1040894.jpg Opened it up, I was very excited at the fact that it came with Sonic & Knuckles and another 15 games inbuilt as well as a cart slot (Everdrive!). So I fire it up, and it's working nicely (although the sound wasn't exact to the original - if they're emulating the FM chip, I understand), then after about 90 seconds of playing, the audio got significantly worse and worse, the framerate dropped and then nothing! The screen went black and it could never be powered up again. It was brand new, complete in the box, from a major department store. I can either refund or exchange it.. what do you guys think I should do? is this a decent clone (it wasn't for me so far )? Does the everdrive work on it? (didn't get a chance to even try it)
Yeah. I don't understand why anyone would buy one of these consoles. They have cheap and shitty hardware with serious display and audio issues, lower compatibility as a result, crap control pads, and worst of all - they cost a lot more than a real Megadrive. If these things were a fiver I'd overlook all of the above, but they're not. They're ~£40, and for that price you can pick up the real thing and a bunch of great games.
Don't even bother with clones. For £40 you could comfortably get a HD Graphics Genesis(True stereo sound) and a large pile of the best games on the system. Ultimately the clone you get will die in another few years meanwhile the Megadrive/Genesis you could have had will still be working for many years to come.
If you want a Megadrive over HDMI then just use an emulator. If a HDMI Genesis clone does come along it'll have the same problems as the clone you just bought, and probably more besides. Honestly, either splash out on the original hardware and a CRT (or decent upscaler) to view it with, or make do with an emulator. You'll be happier either way than with this kind of shitty clone.
Yeah, I have the original, just thought it'd be cool to have this one to thrash out - but if it didn't last 2 minutes, I don't think it'll do for thrashing
There's an edit button if you need to add something to your post. Isn't it obvious? Because it would cost a lot more to use original parts. If you're asking why the cloned system on a chip isn't more accurate, same answer really - it'd be expensive to fix the current implementation, and 99% of the people who buy one don't care about or even notice the differences anyway.
whats even more sad is the blaze clones are sega approved :banghead::crying: /offtopic one day i want to approach sega and ask to build an all in one system that plays every game sega ever made including DC and use orig blue prints just smaller circuits and build it to better then original quality standards but given how retarded sega has gotten since the death of the DC that will never happen they will never let anyone see the GD drive specs because then the DC will live on let alone sega wont let anyone build the drive at all because they are retarded or maybe they are scared because if they help keep DCs on the road it will piss off sony and MS /offtopic
Wouldn't it be cheaper and easier just to emulate them? Then again, that would be following your criteria to the letter - the smallest circuits to the spec of the original console is in software! Also, in theory it would be to higher quality. Trouble is, many games devs worked 'off-the-spec' to push the limits of the console, which would probably make this 'super-console' incompatible with them.
umm i said " quality standards " not specs i mean it being built like a tank where its gonna last 20 years or more and emulation kinda defeats the purpose yah i know its a pipe dream but one can still dream but given how retarded sega has gotten in the last 11 years its never gonna happen:crying:
It's not Sega that's being retarded here. The device you're talking about would be prohibitively expensive and consequently would appeal to a small number of people. If through some magic it could be made properly and cheaply it would threaten Sega's downloadable retro sales (XBLA, PSN etc), which are potentially much more lucrative. Pipe dreams are only really fun when they're vaguely feasible.
your one of those fools that think downloads are going to replace physical meda arnt you? surprisingly clone systems sell rather well they are all trash but still sell well and it wouldn't hurt the virtual arcade market because the games are no longer produced and all the lazy gamers are keeping it going just fine it wouldent be prohibatively expencive it would retail a little higer then the retron3 that plays genasis nes and super nintendo its full retail is 70 dollars http://stoneagegamer.com/consoleclones.aspx the sega all in one would retail somewhere around 120 given how much qulity has gone into the retron3 its a damn nice clone and given it supports ever console sega ever made it would appeal to just about every sega fan and sell like hot cakes the only thing that stands in its way would be segas stupidity and thats a mighty big mouton to cross after the DC died everyone that was remotly good left and all the innovashion dried up and alls we have left is hollow titles like sonic 4 ( sonic isnt supposed to go into the fall animation after coming off a ramp damn it and why are the levels are redux classics innovation damn it do it it all looks the same and makes me wanna yawn )
