I know that pirated Famicom Disk System games sometimes came on black disks, but what about blue ones? I know some games were given official releases on blue disks, but I've found a game on a blue disk that I've only ever known of being a normal yellow disk release. Any idea on how likely it is that it's pirated?
Can you give more details, like mention what game it is? Can you provide a pic? I wont be able to tell you either way but I find the FDS very interesting.
If the Nintendo-logo with the gaps at the bottom of the disk is identical with official disks, it should be original. Compare it to this one: Also, which game is it that you found? Some people used blue disks for Disk-Writer-Station games to make them more durable because the blue disks have a shutter. My Kaette-kita Mario Bros is on a blue disk despite being a Disk-Writer game, so someone must have been considerate at the time of purchase. Is there another game on the B-Side of the disk? What about the labels?
It's FDS version of The Legend of Zelda. The disk appears to be identical to your example, and I don't see any glaring errors that might indicate piracy. It even has the correct stickers (not sure if disk writer stations would provide stickers).
Zelda no Densetsu was a Disk writer game. Stickers for each game were provided by the machine as well as a folded instruction sheet.
I think you bought them separately, at a little extra cost, I think it was just 500 yen, but cannot remember it properly now. Nintendo Japans website once had all information about it. I think you didn't have to have/buy them if you didn't want to.
Don't quote me on this but I think the blue Disks were originally intended for a system called Disk Fax, which was used for contests. As far as I'm aware of, you would go to the local store with the blue-disk copy you bought and put it into a kind of Disk Writer machine (I can't remember if you put it in a normal Disk Writer or a specific Disk Fax machine) and from there it would send the hi-scores contained on the disk directly to Nintendo. I think the prizes for these contests were Gold Disks (in the little Diskkun boxes) and such. As far as I remember, there were about 4 or 5 contests, on games like 3D Hot Rally, Golf Japan Course and US Course, maybe a couple more that I can't remember. After the contest the disks then could be used as normal yellow disks. I'm quoting this out of a magazine I read some time ago. Edit : found mention of it online : http://famicomworld.com/workshop/articles/the-holy-grails/holy-grails-an-introduction/
It is. All official disks have Nintendo logo in the plastic. They come in Yellow and Blue. There are also White ones that are development related. I think a Legend of Zelda prototype, which was released awhile back, was on one of these white disks (which said Nintendo).
Obviously it's a pirate, but what software is on it? Unfortunately I can't read those upside-down kanji. Some hacked rom maybe?
I can take another image of it the right way up if you like. At the moment I need another travel adapter to power on my Game Doctor 6.
The disk has Chinese written on it. It says Kung Fu Cat <Something>. The last character is in Traditional type and is kind of hard to read.
I believe it's "黨". It seems to be a game based off of this show. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Samurai_Pizza_Cats http://zh.wikipedia.org/wiki/功夫貓黨
