I have 2 birthday traditions 1 is that each year to my my birth I get a Simpsons DVD Set the second is I go to either a Japanese, Chinese or Thai place with my parents.

This year we decided to go to a resturant called Haruki it was endorsed by an Okinawan friend of mine and previously I had enjoyed Sukiyaki there.

So tonight my pops and I went there he got a bento box (the biggest F'n Bento I've ever seen) and I got the Pork Katsu Curry.

Needless today I enjoyed it it was quite different from any other curry i've had in the past (I love indian food too it wasn't like that and I've had Singapore curry noodles...nothing like this either)

I understand Curry is Crazy popular in Japan so....

Let us pay tribute to the Kare...

Curry is one of the foods Japan destroyed along w/ Pizza most notably, as well as the corn chip (crisps for our English friends). The potato variants aren't too bad.

Want real curry: find Indians that make it. This is extremely difficult in the continental US. Outside of New York, you'd be hard pressed to find a well done curry dish.

Japanese curry. Apples, sugar, no flavor.

Are you serious? Over here in the UK there are many Indian restaurants that make nice curries within a few miles of me.

Yeah, the UK has some great curry places in most cities. Japanese curry isn't curry though in the Indian sence. It's nice to eat but you do have to go to an Indian restrant to get the good stuff. There's 3 in Kokura where I work and 1 in Shimonoseki where I like. They're all pretty nice to be honest.

Lol, you work in kokura? I'm crossing that on a regular base. LOL

S, N & T in kyushu (yahatta & kanda koujou) are customers of ours.

The only reason for so many good Indian curry places in the UK is their colonial empire background. In any other country Indian restaurants are scarcely found, but they exist of course. I love Indian food, my favourite along with Italian. Whenever I go to a restaurant here in Germany, I choose that nice Indian place next to the train station.

As said, Japanese "Karee" is not the same as traditional curry, but I have to say I like both. The Japanese version is a little weird at first (what has a big chunk of meat + cheese to do with Indian KAREE?), but once you realized that it has nothing to do with the nice tasty and hot curry you get in an Indian restaurant, it can be enjoyed as a nice cheap fastfood alternative.

Japanese pizza, however,... stay away with that shit, lol.

Yeah I am fully aware Japanese and Indian curry aren't the same. And Yes there are alot of really good Indian places in Rhode Island there's this one place called Bombay Club for one but it's so out of the way nobody knows where it is.

I've had really good frozen indian food too. Frozen Vindaloo isn't uncommon where I am.

What makes you think I thought otherwise? If you reread my thread you'll find, "in the continental US" where the OP is located.

I'm not sure, that seems to be just another crazy fastfood offer like the MegaMac or the Windows 7 burger. I was more referring to all the crazy things they like to put on their pizza, at least I noticed that when I saw these plastic things in a showcase. Raw fish, creamed corn and other shit I wouldn't like to see on a pizza. ^^

What people have to understand is that the Japanese like to change everything apart from their dumb way of thinking.

There is almost NO world dish how it's meant to be, only how the Japanese think it should be. Even something simple like a British scone taste like dry shit. It's so dry you can choke on them unless you have a drink. Nasty, nasty crap. Pizza can be good but then there's the stupid Japanese idea of pizza such as a cabbage pizza WTF!

@Tatsujin, - Hey, next time you're down in Kokura or Yahatta (Kanda is a bit far) let me know. We can go for a beer if you have time! I'll have to get the train home though :(

I love kare. I don't really like spicy food at all. I also like how the Japanese change dishes; just like every other country changes dishes.

LOL not exactly a fair statement, your in Bradford. That city has more curry houses than you could ever hope to get through :)

Japanese curry isn't bland, it's only bland if you don't make it properly. I never understood the bragging that some people do when it comes to stuff like curry. I like to taste all the flavours in one so i have them mild, it's pointless contaminating it with stupid amounts of chilli as after the first few mouthfuls you cant taste anything anymore as your tastebuds have been killed.

My mrs says the same thing about curry, and that I can only have one tastebud left (tobasco) but it's just not true. You can get much more varied flavours in hot curry's, as long as you aren't a wuss that can't stand anything spicy.

Japanese curry though... ugh... last time I had it the amount of MSG in there made me ill...

Never said it was bland: just awful. It's closer to beef stew poured over rice than curry. Found in any restaurant, it always contains at least beef stock. It's not real curry if there's no vegetarian alternative.
