Just at 2am last night, I was playing Counter-Strike: Source with my friends and noticed a very big drop in FPS and I mean a big drop. I'd get half of my performance I'd usually get, for example I usually sit around 100-299FPS execept this time I was getting only 30-50FPS. Before jumping to any conclusions, I updated my graphics driver, scanned for malware and viruses. Cleaned out any junk in my temp folder. Still the problem happened. Also to rule out it being only CSS, I tried out blur and the same thing very low FPS. I also tried restoring Windows 7, in the process the restore didn't go so well as when I restarted after I was promoted and logged in again it would sit a black screen... Crud. Just had enough fucking around with the software side of things I formatted and reinstalled Windows 7. The problem is now fixed, I've got my full performance back. I'd just like to see what you think could of caused this bizarre issue, as I'm completely stumped. Remember this has nothing to do with the hardware side as formatting and installing a fresh copy of Windows 7 the problem has fixed... I've never had this problem before, so this has left me scratching my head...
trojan that is mining bitcoins on your GPU https://www.mysonicwall.com/sonicalert/searchresults.aspx?ev=article&id=377
Bitcoins are the new pesos, I don't even get the point in mining them anymore. Absolutely tanked in value since August.
Crud... So looks like I'll reinstall again.. but it's happened again after using auto shutdown on uTorrent...
Get the free GPU meter offered in the Microsoft Gadgets gallery. It will show how much GPU is being used. If the hackers weren't being extra smart, your meter should show abnormal usage even on the Windows desktop if your GPU is being hacked for mining. If the hackers were extra careful, then chances are that they made it so that their actions are completely hidden from the host PC. The gadget is free.
It's fine after a fresh install, so I'm not trying to remove it. It's something getting through uTorrent. I'll have to use another client. Just for now, don't use uTorrent! I'm one of the unlucky ones right now -_-
μtorrent has been on the way down for a while now. Gradually getting bloated as fuck, offering low cost and great security anti virus for only $79.99! What a joke. Soon as I find another lightweight torrent software it's gone.
700KB is bloated? How about you dont download the version that is ADVERTISED as having bloat and just get the "normal" version?
Wrong choice of words. It's getting quite poor, the UI is not as easy as it used to be. Constant advertisements for the paid version (which is fair enough) but it's horribly deceptive.
I agree the UI has changed for the worse. I have not seen these adverts you speak of, but I very rarely use torrents.
Vuze anyone? Been using it for a bit over a year now. I can't ever use any other Torrent client because of how good Vuze has been to me.
alternatively do like i do and use uTorrent 1.6.1 no bloat, works just as fine as it did when it came out
You are both vulnerable to the dll hijacking exploit, upgrade to uTorrent 2.0.4.22967. Its the last version of uTorrent before the gui took a nose dive, and is also patched from the dll exploit.
Reverted to the one you suggested a few days back, all the lightness of uTorrent, with the nice old gui and the security.
