The BGS was held this last weekend at the Sulamerica Convention Center, in downtown Rio de Janeiro. It was Promoted as the biggest gaming event of Latin America and to be honest, i have to agree. I never had seen an event like this before.

At the entrance, there was a kind of "time travel" tunnel showing lots of old and classic game consoles like the Pong, Atari VCS, Famicom, Genesis till the latest like PS3, X360.

Since it was an event open to the public, it was very crowded. And i mean very, from kids to adults. This was good and bad at the same time.

    - Sony PlayStation Booth

The main presence on the event had lots of games to try. Most of the stuff wasn’t exactly new, but still, it was the first real PlayStation promotion in the country.

The 3D Area had a Bravia 3DTV demo, and some PS3 games like MotorStorm, Super Stardust HD and Wipeout HD. I never was impressed by the whole OMG3D thing and haven't changed my mind after experiencing it. Motorstorm looks way worse, Wipeout HD runs on 30fps and Super Stardust HD only shows the effect in a subtle way.

The Move Area had pratically all games made by Sony for it, like The Fight: Lights Out, Kung Fu Rider, Racquet Sports, Start the Party!, Sports Champions, The Shoot and Eyepet. Most of them felt like minigames, but the Eyepet thing really made parents and kids happy. I bet it Sony will sell a lot of Move's because of this.

There was a God of War area as well, with kiosks running GOW3 and GOW collection. Very crowded as expected. The GT simulators were running on GT5P shamefully, but the booth had a big projector screen showing videos of GT5. Even the simulators being GT5P, there was a gigantic line of people waiting to play it. There were also other game kiosks avaiable like Modnation Racers and Little Big Planet 2. Again lots of people playing them.

The event held a video conference with Chris Hinojosa–Miranda, american producer of GT5, at the 2nd floor of the convention center. Chris was very cool and answered lots of questions of the people there – including myself.

    - NC Games Booth

NC Games is the brazilian company responsible for distributing the games of companies like Konami, Ubisoft, Sega, Capcom, Disney Interactive Studios, NamcoBandai,...

The booth was divided in two, with a big screen promoting Ubisoft’s Just Dance and Michael Jackson: The Experience. On this same area there were lots of game kiosks from other companies games, like Sega’s Vanquish, THQ’s UFC, ...

On the other part of the booth a big area for Konami and PES2011. A competition take place for PES 2011. Also other game kiosks like Konami’s Castlevania, NamcoBandai’s Time Crisis for the Move, Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption,...

    - Blizzard Booth

Two areas, mainly dedicated for StarCraft II. A competition take place and the winner was supposed to get 5.000 dollars.

    - WB Games Booth

WB Games distributes their own games and also EA and Codemasters. The booth had lots of LCD showing trailers of Dragon Age II, Crysys II and so on. It had playable demos of Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, F1 2010, Fifa 11 and the new Mortal Kombat. It had two demo spots, each one running on different console (PS3 and X360). Hector Sanches, one of the game producers, was at the event and held one conference to the public at each day of the event. There he showed the latest build of the game, running on a X360 devkit, answered some questions and even spoke some phrases in portuguese. The game looks amazing and it’s a sure success. Played it for some time and it's very good. My only complaint is that the animation isn’t as fluid as most recent games like SSFIV.

    - SEVEN Booth

Seven is a game design and arts school and had some promos there, including competitions with SSFIV and with the Kinect. Other than that, some old and classic arcades and the guys from Mundo Canibal (A Brazilian website that has some fun and weird flash animations – something along the lines of HappyTreeFriends).

    --

There were other small booths from Cosplay stuff, game shops and a stage with the MegaDriver band.

Microsoft or Nintendo were not at the show, which is very weird. Still on the NC Games there were lots of games for it, including Sonic Colors for the Wii

I went just on the first day, but it was a huge success. Why i say that? Well, the next year event is already confirmed and will happen on 5 days instead of just 2. Hopefully next year the event will have the presence of Microsoft and Nintendo as well.

That’s it. Hope the report was worth reading (sorry about any mistakes / engrish) and enjoy the pictures.
