I just bought a Philips Magnavox WebTV model MAT965A101 from Goodwill(a thrift store) for $1 on Friday. The problem is that the WebTV device has to be connected to the internet.. It only has an RJ-11 modem jack. I don't have a dial up connection. Could I hook up the webtv to my modem jack on my laptop(windows vista 64) and connect through it? Like a bridge?
Short reply - No, it won't work that way. Long reply - Yes, it will work, but it's not easy. You'll have to trick the WebTV into thinking that it's connected to a real phone line, which has been done with Dreamcasts. Even then, I think most WebTV units required a subscription. If you were lucky enough to grab the MSNTV2 version, someone figured out how to boot Linux on it. Here's a link.

I used to use mterlouw's method to connect my Dreamcast to the internet during the PSO era. It does work, but configuring it was tricky - the MODEM strings might not work so you'll need the documentation for your PC's modem.
