Without offense, but for your healt it's best you don't touch anithing. Go to someone that know where know what he's doing.

@retro. Electronic it isn't something that you can learn in an year or two, either with a dummy noob book.

@Shark, as already wrote, check the fuses. 99% are they.

Firstly, I never specified a timescale. You're the one introducing a year or two.

Secondly, that's absolute rubbish. Take a look at your local college - I bet they do one year electronics courses. A year is PLENTY to get the basics down. You learn as you go.

    http://www.icslearn.co.uk/distance-...ngineering-(specialist-electronic)-(qcf).aspx

There you go. 180 hours course, home learning. Do 2 hours a day, and you'll not only be trained in 3 months, you'll have a qualification. For £800, though.

A book is perfectly sufficient to learn the basics.

One year is more than enough to learn to design switching PSUs.

I'd go to Ebay for a couple more 1001 consoles. They're cheap and plenty.

shark69: Is there a chip installed? I had a modchip cause so much interference, the laser would have issues reading discs.
That was on a PSOne board (PM-41 (2)) though, the install pics floating around for it are wrong.

Okay I think I'll just leave it then, I don't want to hurt myself. I'll just stick to the case mods and simple soldering.

    confused with other user

    oh my god O.O
One year to get bases in what? electronics have lots of bases, depends wich branches you select. Or you think knowing what is a resistor a capacitor or a multimeter (only the basics) you becomes a qualificated techincian.
Im my country you need at least 3 years of secondary school to become an qualificated operator (technician) and FIVE years of FREE university to become an engineer.

Yeah like people that think they are C expert programmer in a year.

C'mon,do you know how switching psu is composed?
You need to know perfectly what component you have to select, how "size" it, and for example, size a BJT a FET or mosfet it's absolutely not an easy things to do. Eyther for other components. You need a very advanced knowedge, and not onlythings that you can learn in an year or noob book...
At least you can do a simple linear psu...

Chuck it in a bin and get another one. I've had a boxed unit that I've been trying to give away for over a year. Nobody wants it.

Thanks for the offer but I could just buy a new one for less than that. I'm thinking of using it for a mod project anyway. I want to gut it and put a PS2 slim inside it :D

I got one to for 5 US$, and suprsie suprise IT DOESNT WORK.
i really dont care, since they are getting harder to come by, and all it needs is a new Motor, but ill replace the whole laser assembly, and it was made In january 1996, and its not yellowed yet (a problem im seeing alot on those)

can I have a list of when they were made?

Thats odd, considering I have a Launce model 1 Sega CD, (sept. 1992) and it reads games & music CD's, and a 1995 Sega saturn, going on 20 years old, those things are built like Complex Tanks. the only problems I see with old CD consoles are PS1's old & even newer models
