Hey, I got a ds lite from a friend and it has the upper screen chopped off. It doesn't start up (I mean only the lower screen lights up for a second with the power diode and turns off immediately) is it repairable? I read somewhere that the ds has some kind of protection so it won't run on when the upper screen is connected, is it true? Do you thank that if I'd insert a new screen it would work?
It's shutting down because it detected that the top screen malfunctioned. So, replacing the screen will cause it to function properly.
Yes, you just need to replace top screen. Its easy to do this, just need to be careful with screen cable, and with soldering wires from speakers.
