My tv has this black bar going down the middle. I have resarched this and haven't really read much about this model having this issue.. Anyone else have this issue? It is the Dell W4201C
They do have a lifespan... but I was always under the impression that this notion had something to do with overall pixel performance (or "wear and tear" if you may) and not somewhere between the signal and pixels.
This is an electronic problem. I've seen this on other TV. Some components needs to be changed. Depending of the age of your TV (and your budget ^^) you should either have it repeared or change it. This isn't going to be something easy to fix, anyway.
Thank you for your replies. I am going to take it to a TV repair shop. They charge $12.50 to look at it and find out what is wrong with it. Not bad!
Man fixing a plasma with a baseball bat - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0ykPsV2voYU With any luck, it might only need a board replaced. If it's a failure in the panel's ribbon cable circuit, then the whole panel would need to be replaced. In that case, it's cheaper to sell it for spares and put the money towards a new display. Or whack it with a bat .
I had a similar problem on a Viewsonic LCD monitor. The LCD array controller died on it or something. The cost to fix was more expensive than to replace so I had to toss it. Paid a lot of money for it at the time too!
When I read baseball bat and fixing I thought it was one of those videos: fixing iPad with a baseball bat http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XGUppxoJUVg
Me, too. I don't care too much about the iPad over any other piece of hardware, but the destruction of perfectly good technology... Gah. I did like the previous repair job, though.
Plasmas FADE they don't just get bars. Black bar means that area is getting no voltage. It's probably a burn component you can fix.
