Brothers scammed $40k off kickstarted with a game, are now squatting on airbnb

Isn't the sharing economy great? less than 10 years ago these two would go to federal pound me in the ass prison, but now they got a bunch of money off dumbass backers (who can't tell a real project from a total scam) and are squatting in some hipster's SF apartment because airbnb much like kickstarter doesn't give a shit about its users and wont help the owner evict these two assholes, who are probably going to tear the shit out of the place by the time the court sends cops after them.

BTW, they are suing the owner, can you believe it? the irony is that they are from texas but in nocal, because back home they would probably get a shotgun mouthwash if they tried to pull this trick.

That is pretty ridiculous. Hopefully they will eventually be brought to justice. Whoever is helping them squat is IMO just as guilty as they are. Also is it just me, or is more of this horse hockey being pulled recently?

 

Yeah its happening a lot, mostly because you have all these tools to do it. For all the bullshit the media said about 3D printers letting you build an AK47 the fact is the real problem is deregulation.

Take uber, there have been reports of attempted rape and kidnappings. A cab driver needs to pass a PITA of a background test just to qualify for a medallion, but uber driver don't need shit, and guess what? the CEO just made driver and passenger ratings invisible to users! who the fuck are you supposed to know if the car you are getting into (or the people you are driving) aren't bipolar assholes with a gun?

I wonder if the uber app can update your facebook if you get stabbed...

 

I can't help but think a thorough beating by an anonymous 3rd party would get them out of the place they're in. A lot of problems could be solved that way. I bet their mother never spanked them.

I would agree with the deregulation aspect. As much as people don't like the government getting involved in the internet, it gets to a point when something needs done. If these people aren't going to act responsibly, who/what is there to correct this and keep them in check? Making those ratings invisible will hopefully lose him/her business. Let's pray people notice the sudden lack of ratings.

 

No they wont, and the ones they scammed wont learn shit either, its never been easier to check on people's past and yet nobody does that before putting real money on the table.

Recently some asshole ran a kickstarter to make an android for PCs called consoleos. A quick google search would show you there is already something like that out there called androidx86 which is free and community-made, that the guy with the project is no engineer and has no IT background except for a shitty clickbait techblog and a console that only exists as a render and never launched.

But it seems nobody fucking did that because the asshole got over $60k, well done internet!

 

Then its just going to go back to stupid people. Stupid people have always pissed their money away on things they shouldn't. With a little research, they wouldn't. But they do and now they just have an easier avenue in which to do it. Also we now have even more access to these happenings. Before it was just hearing through a friend about one or two people, now we can see all of it.

I think part of the problem is that a $10a pledge most backers can't even bother to fill up a consumer report form, so unless someone organizes a class action suit (really fucking expensive btw) nothing gonna happen.............until a law makes these crowdfunding sites legally responsible for these shit projects

 

And once that happens you'll get a ton of people complaining that the government is overstepping their boundaries, being too controlling, etc. No way to make everyone happy, unfortunately.

Here in quebec you cannot remove anyone out of an apartment you are renting them without legal actions. Even if they are not paying or you made them sign a contract for only a month.
As soon as you give them the keys they are legally protected.

If you forcefully get them out yourself then they can sue your for damage and they will win.

The procedure to get them out legally will cost you in the hundreds and take months.

 

I bet airbnb squatters are gonna have a field day over there...
