Just wondering which games were released bugged/defective and later re-released patched?

    I know of:

Dreamcast NTSC-U :- Hydro Thunder, Mortal Kombat Gold, NFL Blitz 2000, Ready 2 Rumble Boxing. They could be identified by having normal covers, patched version having 'Hot New' on the cover.

Dreamcast PAL-E :- Metropolis Street Racer. Identified by.... dunno!

If anyone knows the product numbers or other identifiable factors for them it would also be handy for collectors wanting to find these embarassments for our colelction :smt023 The same for 1st and 2nd prints of games would be handy too!

    Patched Games

Gran Turismo 2 on the PSX shipped in a horribly buggy state. It was so bad you couldn't even finish the game at 100% if you didn't get an updated disc.

Tomb Raider PSX has multiple revisions.

Castlevania: SOTN PSX has multiple revisions.

Those are the big ones that I recall off the top of my head.

I have the bugged version of MSR so I can look up the serial no :)

    Croc (sega saturn)
    first batch
If you boot this game as any other game the game will be playable but the head of croc won't be there to join you :smt082. You have to boot, restart and go to the 'saturn bios' and chose 'start aplication' then the head will be visible.

I think I have some more bugged games which were later fixed need to look them up though.

Sonic Adventure 2 (First batch) had a very small ammount of discs where Robotnik fell through his section of Canon's Core. Sonic the Hedgehog had the spike glitch. Ocarina with it's many revisions and edits (Swordless trick being one of them), Majora's Mask and Wind Waker had major changes when it was released in America, etc. Sure, it's not a bug, but it is a revision.

PAL Gran Turismo 2 was OK - I think it may only have been the NTSC U/C one which was borked.

Also, GTA: Vice City went through many revisions (there's some doc on GameFAQs about them) - main problems with the first revisions were that saving the game in Cherry Poppers (NTSC version) or that crappy little tower block thing with the small garage across from it, near El Casa Swanko (PAL version) would corrupt your save game in some way.

Fifa 99 Pal for the n64 did. The first versions called the player ronaldo by a different name to the newer version - Can't remember either name though, but neither caleld him by his official name (something to do with him having his own game, don't remember exactly)

Also Aren't there revisions to the 2 Xbox games that allow you to do the soft exploit (007 agent under fire +1 other) and to PSO for the gamecube?

  10. Newer versions of Splinter Cell have had the 'bug' fixed, but my original works fine for TSOP flashing. But every version of 007: AUF (inc budget) works. Not sure about MechAssault. As for PSO on GC, I beleive every version of that works too.

Ultimate Super-duper Final Everything Hyper Street Fighter (sorry, can't remember the real name. Lost track after SuperX!) on Xbox has had a revision. The first release in Japan turned out to be multi regional. But Capcom recalled them to fix the supposed bug.

Also off the top of my head - NES SMBros had -1 world removed, and the 1up trick with the turtle. And the Chris Houlihan room was removed from Zelda:aLttP.

  11. Three Xbox games had an overflow 'issue' (due to an early *cough* SDK 'problem'), namely 007: AUF, Mechassault and Splintercell.

...Later revisions of the game were patched accordingly.

PSO: Episode's 1&2 for the GC also had a nice server 'issue' built in by SEGA (Thanks guys)

...This was pulled and corrected by Nintendo, but alas too late.

    Saturn:

    -NiGHTS US version is multiregion
-Soukyugurentai causes problems with certain BIOSes and hence received a second revision (Soukyugurentai Otokyu?)

the secret room in ALTTP wasn't a bug, it was for a contest. Who wouldn't like to have is name in a legendary secret area of one of the biggest video game classic ever? ;-)

Man, the buggiest game for sure is the ps2, it has 11 revisions :smt043

  18. The NTSC Atari 7800 version of Impossible Mission was literally impossible; you couldn't get to the item needed to complete the game (you needed this item to get to the place you couldn't get to).

Euro 2004 on Xbox believe it or not!!! It is easy to remember the Netherland squad as all the players seem to be named "Ned".
