    Hi!

Just a few questions here about the Doctor V64 , anyone have it?:)

It doesn't seem to run any 256 MB or above roms...why?

And it always says "Swapping Bytes Order..." when running any rom , why is that?

    :banghead:

I vaguely remember the swapping bytes order thing has to do with it being the wrong file format, in one file format 1=1 and 0=0 but in the bung one 1=0 and 0=1, or something like that?
Does it only have 128MBit of memory installed?

Hmm , okay do you know how to fix that swapping error?

And I don't know about the memory , I bought this from somebody without a box so I got no info...

Do a search on the net or on this forum, pretty sure you're meant to use roms with a certain file extension (indicating what format they should be in)?

The extensions are all working , N64 , Z64 and V64 , but they all give the same swapping screen , but the game will run just fine in the end but it takes a loooooong time to load...

You can use an app called RTool to byte swap before burning the roms to cd.

There's a slot under the V64 that houses the memory. If you have one memory stick, then you have 128m, so you'll need two sticks for anything up to 256m.

    Edit:
It wont run anything above 256m, you'll need a V64 Junior, or one of the recently released new N64 flash carts.

Okay , thank you for that tool , I will use that!

But uhm , where can I see hoe many RAM it has , The menu says

Fully test 128 and 256 DRAM

So does that mean that I have 256M ?

If that is so then it's strange that it won't run 256 M games...

Turn the V64 upside down. There's a cover, slide it off. There's two memory slots. You need two sticks of memory for 256m games. V64's shipped with 128m iirc.

Edit: added pic of my V64 with 256M.

Hmm , seems that I only have 128 M after removing that cover , that explains it ...MEH.

There are a few online shops that stock V64 memory.

Just google doctor v64 memory, you get a hit as the 2nd result. As for how reputable the shop is, I don't know.

Well thank you very much for that hint :)

But i seem to have more weird problems , some games are only 96M or just 128M , and they still won't run , while other game work just fine...

Banjo Kazooie for example is 128 M , but won't run..

Lylat Wars also won't run... only 96 M

    :banghead:Frustrating XD

A couple of things to try:

Try different boot carts in the adapter.
Try a different version of the rom.
If you have a PC with a parallel port, you can use RTool to send the roms from your PC to the V64 for testing before you burn to cd.

I've added a user manual doc that I found on the net a while back.

    Another questions (sorry)

I'm trying to find the BIOS version , maybe that's why some games won't work.

Do you know where i can see what version it is?

P.S , that RTool 64 program is nowhere to be found on the net , strange...

    You can use this: http://www.zophar.net/utilities/n64aud/tool-n64.html

Also you should see what BIOS version you have on screen after bootup when no disc is in the drive.

Well if it is the swapping message, just leave it for a little while and then the game will start...otherwise just use one of the mentioned tools...

    g luck

Okay I still have this problem with some games , here are a few >

    Lylat Wars
    Banjo Kazooie
    Blast Corps
    F-Zero X
    Diddy Kong Racing
    Yoshi Story

These games just won't run , even if there byteswapped...

So what am I doing wrong here , I guess they need to be patched or something but how? and with what patch or program ARRGH!:banghead:

Without digging my V64 out, I can say for certain that Banjo Kazooie and Blast Corps both work on mine, no patching was required. I think the others worked, the only games I can recall running into problems with were any over 256m, or ones like Banjo Tooie, Jet Force Gemini and the Zelda Games. There are ways around Zelda, but since I own the originals, I never tried.

Try different versions of the rom, and try different boot carts. Some games need a certain boot cart to work.

Okay , but the problem is , I don't have many bootcarts....only mario 64 and a race game...

Is there maybe a list somewhere to know wich game needs wich boot cart , that might be a lot faster . , searching google XD:p

Maybe the biggest problem of this thing is the CD-rom drive , I wasted 15 CD-roms already for testing roms XD:p
