I could tell you about it, but I won't waste your time. Read here: http://www.bungie.net/News/TopStory.aspx?cid=9182
I know some people who are gonna go apeshit when they find out about this. Its about time we got some new maps. I'm a little surprised that we're getting any new ones.
I think it's surprising that the new maps are coming out at the same time as the Halo 3 beta. Unless that beta is REALLY limited, I can't imagine myself playing much Halo 2. It will be nice to have some Halo 2 maps for exclusive for 360 though. These maps will probably come with a new playlist that is also a 360 exclusive (in the same way that there were exclusive playlists for the first map-pack when it cost money). A 360 exclusive playlist will be great news for those that are sick of dealing with modders every other game! I don't much care about rank, but I do care when the game stops being fun because I have to quit out and find a new game repeatedly because I'm being modded. No 360 modchip = no modders! Joy!
The timing is, if anything, a direct shot across Sony's bow. Sony: "Hey everyone. Look at the new PS3!" Crowd: "OOOhhhhh!" Microsoft: "Oh, hey, um, everyone who buys an Xbox 360 and signs up for Live gets to play the Halo 3 beta." Crowd: "WOOT!" Sony: "Uh, guys? Guys?" -hl718
I own a 360, but I don't see the big fuss surrounding Halo.Never did. You can stone me now (or I ll get stoned later )
I won't stone you, but... h:. I never had any interest in the Xbox until someone invited me over to play Halo with a bunch of guys in college. (This was about 2.5 years after it's release.) I got hooked in a major way. A week later I had my own controller and copy of Halo, six months later I had 4 copies of Halo, 4 Xboxes, 16 controllers, 4 TVs, and 2 copies of Halo 2. You could say the game was a "system seller" for me. Needless to say, I'm pretty excited by this news. I understand that a lot of people don't like FPS games, but neither did I. I pretty much exclusively played RPGs and puzzles games... but the competitive spirit of Halo is what got me. I just had never had that much FUN playing a game with other people.
I ve been an old time Quake 3 player on the PC (although my skills were never "l33t" or anything ), so Halo just wasnt that exciting. The pad-based controls and the clunky XBOX controller didnt help either
I do, also. Basically Halo is so hyped because most console gamers have never played a PC FPS, but then again, maybe it was spoiled for me because I am used to the ease of use a mouse and keyboard bring. Barcode: Don't the Greeks all play Counterstrike?
Bleh. I've played first person shooters from the days of Wolfenstein and Blake Stone. I played Quake with just a keyboard until a friend of mine showed you could play it with a mouse too. From that day onward I was a convert. After that it was Quake II, Action Quake and Counter-Strike mostly. Anyway, long story short. Even with my PC background, I really enjoyed Halo. I don't have make excuses for it. It's a fine title. I even bought a Xbox of my own for it. Honestly, I still don't know what those other titles on the PC were that made Halo somehow less good. And I was fairly into the genre back then. Half-Life had a better story, sure, but what else? Halo had vehicles that worked a lot better than the ones in Tribes, Halo had a superb physics engine that beat everything else out in the market, it had a fair storyline, good maps (great locales, good level design), and best of all -- co-op.
OK, but Halo for me was slow and cumbersome on the controller. Same, dare I say it, with Goldeneye. My main issue with controller FPS'ers is that they are slowed down for the controller or the damage is reduced to compensate. That is my opinion. I prefer the twitch gaming of mouse and keyboard
