I was wondering, is it possible to burn an XDK game to disc in order to run it from the DVD drive? I've downloaded one of the available XDK games from online and am wanting to quickly run it from the DVD drive for ease of use, is it possible for me to do this? Some games for other systems want to be in ISO format, I was curious if the XDK can run files simply from a data disc, or if there's a simple method to get it working.

I assume you can just burn the game folder with contents to a disc and it will be read and displayed on xshell.

You'd need a disc big enough to fit the files on and I dont think double layered will work.

EDIT: Why dont you just transfer it onto the hard drive? You say its easier, but transferring and playing from the HDD could not get any easier

Wait, ... Can the xdk read both dual layer +DL and -DL disc? I have both format available but not sure which is a better purchase? What abt the burning"bookmark" settings? Using Nero burning rom?

It's easy to do. Small builds can fit on a single layer disc, just lay out the raw files into the disc and burn like dvd not like a thumb drive. The main xex must be named default.xex and resigned for devkit use among the other files such as DLLs. Larger discs you place on a dual layer. No ISOs, no special software. I build discs all the time for my XDKs to use. It's no different than booting an XEX from a thumb drive or off the internal memory, just remember to keep the default.xex, it'll crash if you rename it.

Here is what I am referring to.

Dead Rising with Debug files looks like:

    $SystemUpdate-bak
    di
    AvatarAssetPack
    default.xex
    nxeart

Just drag and drop said files onto disc and you're good to go.

On a side note its worth updating your xex files, once there signed to dev, title updates for retail won't apply to them.

Thanks! XboxSurgeon would you mind giving my a little step by step guide how to do it? I can burn files to disc using Windows as a USB flash drive, but when I try and burn the data using a CD/DVD I'm not sure how to burn the actual files. Doing it as a flash drive Windows burns them automatically, but as a CD/DVD it doesn't seem to do anything. Am I supposed to activate the burn manually? :/ If anyone else can help that would be great too!

Not positive about this, because I've never done it, but I believe he meant you can burn the disc using Windows explorer. Just drag the files onto the blank disc, hit burn to DVD, and select the permanent radio button.

You could play around with it using a CD and XEXMenu, as well, I believe.

Yes, I would have done the same with a screen shot had I not posted the previous off my phone. Thanks DeCrYpTiC for assisting on that.

I've figured it out, thank you. Writing as DVD in Windows just requires manual burn, although Windows 8 isn't the easiest OS to follow, but I've found the option and got a disc working!
