Just got this for the PS3, in French doh! Ive been playing it for 26 min and already I am 11% thro the game. Its a bit easy. The game is set in a huge city (Paradise City) which you can drive round to your hearts content. But it still has the Burnout style races (you go to certain points in the city to start the challenges). You can win different cars there doesnt seem to be much in the cars some have different styles of boost eg one you have to wait till your boost bar is full to boost others just boost as and well you have some in your boost bar. There is plenty of stuff to do such as crash into barriers , super jumps and smash billboards besides the challenges so its never a dull moment and the crash graphics are amazing. However there is a new option - online. This just makes the game. I love it nothing I write can do it justice, you just have to try it.
I absolutely loved the demo and I'll probably buy the full game soon. I love how you can switch to an online game in seconds without disrupting play. You should tell us your PSN name so we can come hunt you down in game!
I will not be buying this game sadly. I am tired of devs removing any kind of offline multiplayer. Burnout was great for sitting around with freinds playing crash multi and stuff but in Paradise there is NO FORM of offline play at all. It makes me mad enough to overlook this gem. I got COD4 and im still pissed that they made ALL the good fun maps ONLINE ONLY! Who the hell ever heard of that? Crappy maps offline, good maps online, such bullshit to get people to sign up for live. Im sticking with my Xbox 1 and Wii, the only good offline systems left
Yeah, it is quite different now - more Need For Speed / Test Drive than Burnout as we know it. There are still some good features, though. And, although it is sadly lacking in the multiplayer with 1 console field, my friends and I still have fun taking it in turns doing challenges. Paul, at least the exclusive French unlock code will work for you! Or at least, the 360 version would have... not sure if the PS3 is the same.
I've played the last few burnouts, but now it really looks like need for speed most wanted with burnout type crashes. This game also has an adjustment period, where you learn how the hell to get around. The open nature of the game means you have to look at the map numerous times during a race to get to the right spot, or just wing it. Combine the game speed, winding roads, the way cars handle during sharp turns, and the traffic, and it makes it hard to even make turns you know are coming up. It's a great game that really could have had a better way to navigate, but you get used to it after awhile.
Im talking about multiplayer offline. I love Live and its a great service, but on weekends family and friends come over and we game into the night and eat pizza and shit. However with most 360 games multiplayer has been made online only to try and make people pay for Live.
Id said its more a Burnout with a Need for speed map, the whole map extra cars thing just makes it more fun - some of the later cars are so far all you can do is look ahead and hope. More i play it the more I like it there are some really adrenalin rushes off it. The crash replays are ace just need a dummy in the car.
I'm surprised people are so wowed by this game. Last year's Test Drive Unlimited pulled off almost a similar experience (ie: offline/online modes done transparently, large free form world, events, etc). That's not to say that BP isn't a good game...I thought the demo was ok, but not something I'll rush right out to buy. TDU to me was the pioneer of this sort of gameplay, but for some reason nobody seems to remember it.
I played the hell out of that game, even got all 1k achievement points. It was grand with it's size and detail of Oahu and seamlessly mixed online with offline. However, it required gamers to spend time winning races and getting cash to buy tons of cars, only to really use 2 in the multiplayer due to their power. Saleen and Koenigsegg are pretty much the only cars people race with online when I quit playing. Yawn. Burnout Paradise is just good old arcade racing fun. This game also has the EA marketing arm behind it, so if more people get to experience open world racing, great. I'm still waiting on news of Test Drive Unlimited 2, although it's been forever since I heard anything about it.
I didn't like Paradise's demo, and so I don't plan to buy the game. They sure did a nice job taking agreat series and putting it in the shitter. BurnOut Revenge was the peak apparently.
Yeah, me too. I wonder which locale they'll use for the sequel if/when it ever sees the light of day? Hawaii made for a good choice (relatively small size and contained nature), so I'm sure the dev team would follow a similar philosophy going forward.
