This will be my main/official thread on this topic. Any more information about the Beta when it comes up will be posted here.

    Story
I was able to buy a copy of the Burnout Revenge Beta dated 7/13/2005. This Beta will work on the console, and the PCSX2 emulator.

    Info
The main problem with this Beta is that much of the content is locked. This is because the original person who snuck this out of the Criterion studio lost the dongle, which would plug into the PlayStation 2, unlocking the content. However, all of the content is in the .iso file, meaning that if you are a modder, you can either unlock the content, or glitch into it using memory edits, as UlsterRosé already did.
My modder friends informed me that I had potential leaked the source code of the game. This is because they found debugging code in the executable, and in a .map file.

    Some of it here:

They said that using the debugging code, that they can piece together the source code for the game. So I might have just leaked out the source code for Revenge, Dominator, and possibly Takedown.
I also attached the MAINUS language file which UlsterRosé converted from string to an easy to readable text document.

    Changes
I have to thank UlsterRosé who has been uploading videos, and uncovering new things in the Beta, which he is listing on this page. That page's contents won't be listed here, so check that page for more changes not listed here.
    • The old bronze, silver, and gold metal images can be seen.
    • Traffic car parts fly off.
    • Some traffic cars are different.
    • Sounds are different, some sounds are missing.
    • The main menu has a world map of where the events take place.
    • Some of the region backgrounds are different.
    • Crash Zones sometimes will have different target cars, or they come from different directions.
    • Crash Zones also seemed to end quicker.
    • Crash Tours can be seen in the singleplayer campaign.
    • Crashbreaker is much faster.
    • Traffic attack has the old countdown timer.
    • Some maps have the old shortcut lights.
    • Lone Peak is unfinished.
    • Sunshine Keys is set in the late afternoon.
    • Some of the cars are different in the Beta. (This was achieved by putting all of the Beta car files into the final version)
    • Probably more I overlooked.

Ye, that's my build I sold to him...
Uh first off, you never disclosed with me about you selling it off further or sharing it with others, something I didnt want you doing, and very disappointed of.

When you buy a game build from someone it's just common sense to not share it with others, or to atleast discuss it with me first. ''from a seller who didn't want to be disclosed.'' is also a lie, as he didn't discuss/disclosed with me that he would make a thread about the build. Very disappointed.

Also, that isn't source code, those are just debugging symbols. Nothing really special about it, it is a thing in most preview game builds. Plus, I believe that most of these adresses were null. You can't piece source code together from a game build, atleast not this one. Also, there was no dongle, Criterion appearently intentionally locked off events/unlockables in their preview discs

Is that something you discussed or just hoped?

He never told me anything about him selling/sharing these builds further, if you buy/get game builds from someone this is something you need to atleast ask permission for.

I guess I hadn't talk to you about sharing it further, which I should have done. I thought that you would be fine with sharing this, since you have done it with other things as well, so that is where I made my mistake. I still was never going to mention you since I knew you probably didn't want to be known. We found some much good stuff on here, and keeping it a secret is something that I felt was the wrong thing to do. I am sorry about that, I have never been in this 'beta business' before so I got the wrong idea from you since like I had said you also had shared builds that you had got, so I thought I would do the same since you didn't.

I don't care about you making video's and stuff (although that was something I was looking to do but that doesn't matter to me) just the sharing around/selling part bothered me. Thought you were very trustful and that this would be basic knowledge.

I mostly keep builds to myself, the only builds I share are builds that I'm allowed to share (AKA I asked permission to the person before-hand, and told him to who I was sharing it to, something you should've done also)

Alright, I can admit to my mistake. I had thought that after I had got it, that it was my property, however I should have not thought that. I can admit to this mistake and I won't make excuses. This is the reason why I won't be dealing with this stuff anymore, it is such a weird business that I should have never poked in my head into, but I guess I lived, and learnt.

What are you talking about? Whenever I buy something like this, it's to release it immediately. It's more common sense to assume that the buyer is going to share it than not.

My mistake was thinking that this is my property to not only share with videos, and threads like this, but share to others, since I bought it off of him, but I guess it isn't, which wasn't logical for me, so I ended up screwing up bigley for it.

From anyone I ever bought from/got builds from, it was standard to not share/trade it around without permission, because they like their builds to be private.

Let's say you buy a GTA build from someone, right? You have not disclosed/discussed with him your plans on reselling/sharing this further with others. Is your first instict to release it to everyone? Especially without having talked to the seller?

I believe this is just common sense and I'm not looking to pursuit this further. What needed to be said has been said and he acknowledged it, the end.
    (so pls no popcorn memes)

But once you've paid money for the build, is it not yours to do with as you please?

I would absolutely release it to everyone, of course that's my first instinct as someone who is passionate about the preservation of videogames. Unless it would get me (or other people) into legal trouble; releasing it then wouldn't be 'common sense', as you say. :p

Michael Jackson would be unnecessary here, we weren't having an argument, we were having a discussion. I feel like most forum-goers struggle to tell the difference between the two these days.

Ha, nah I understand your viewpoint now. But still this is stuff you've got to discuss first with someone. With almost every seller I've spoken to this was just common/obvious. I would understand if you were selling a disc, though. But this wasn't such a case. Have fun with the build, but again, still do acknowledge what I said. Thanks.

Alright, I will remove that from my text. I thought this was a place to sell stuff like this?
Nevermind I see what you mean, it was a newly added rule.

    No.

    Sell original copy, yes.

Make copies of copies is just piracy and illegal activity.

If he purchased the build he has the right to do as he pleases with the build imo.

I think he was referring to me releasing/sharing the Beta with others, not selling it.
