Any games you remember seeing pictures of or even a video in action and then you went out and bought or played it and felt you had been done because the graphics were pretty. Racing Jam by Konami was shown as a low resolution video on an Edge CD-ROM and it looked amazing, it looked realistic. However once I saw the game and played it I felt I had wasted a pound as the graphics weren't that great (Konamis NWK-TR board was underpowered even by Dreamcast standards). Microcosm and Scavenger looked good as still pictures but once you saw it running and played it, then you realised that Laserdiscs had made a poor return and you wondered if the MSX had been given a new lease of life.
Wow. Mr. Rare pretty much hit it dead on. I am still sad at how many games now look so beautiful, yet suck so hard. :crying:
I never really played any of the current games except on fairs due to my lack of money (or the will of spending money on current stuff instead of collecting older hard+soft). Well but back in the days when I always bought the most recent games (Xbox, N64), I remember stuff like that. Wreckless/Double Steal... no doubt, I still think its absolutely beautiful looking, but I played it through within 6 hours. But I'd buy it again, just in case I forgot how bad voice acting can be
Agreed on there Also I think Street Fighter III 3rd strike looks great and even better now with the xbox 360 HD support
Starfox Adventures. Gameplay was ok, but nowhere near the original concept. Technically a marvel though.
Hmm i think like AVE wreckless, for me it looked good but after 5 minuites of play i found it to be crap. Dead or Alive 4 on 360 i seen it and thought it looked rather good untill i played it and to me it seemed to play just like DOA 3 which was disapointing
I bought Quake 4 for two reasons: -It looked like Doom 3 with lights -It played like Doom 3 with lights Needless to say, I upgraded my graphics card so I could play it at a higher level of detail.
Nah, more like opposite that: when I saw the video review of GoW it was like "WTF? is this what everyone is talking about? lame..." yet when I saw it live and played it I was truly amazed (when compared to how lame I thought it was before...). Thats mainly due to the fact that most videos are VGA or XGA, while games are at least 720p nowadays. And lets not even talk about framerate: GoW looked almost jerky in the videos, yet its pretty smooth when played. Anyway, if there was a game that looked cool in previews that was SA2: when I saw the first footage from E300 it was awesome, but when I got my hands on the game the hype went off after half an hour or even less. It was not even near as impressive as SA1 was...
Problem with 3rd strike is it's pretty glitchy, for that matter so is Mega Man 8 something I hope they fix with the next update.
I loved SFA, while it may have not been Dinosaur Planet, I truly had a blast with that game and so did a good amount of people I've talked to. As for a game that ticked me off when I bought it because of the graphics... Auto Modellista, my god did the controls in that game annoy me. I supposed you could include most Cd-i games e.g. Zelda's adventure etc
Donkey Kong Country series. Those were some kickass graphics for the SNES that couldn't be made possible without the Silicon Graphics hardware used by RareWare. StarFox 64 was the reason I got a Nintendo 64, a wise decision too! EDIT - I misinterpreted the first sentence of the first post. The only game that comes to mind is Counter-Strike Source.
GoW on my XB360, though that is mostly due to hype. It's a nice game, looks amazing but it's not as good as everyone made it out to be.
Most of the Nintendo/Rare titles had that effect on me in the '90s, though the execution of several of those games didn't live up to the initial shine.
