Hey guys, i was wondering if you could help me make a decision. It's not confirmed yet but i may have the opportunity to get a PS4 glacier white Destiny Bundle for 399,99 Euros. That's right, there will be a 50 euro discount in Portugal from September 9th to September 21st, possibly because of the Xbox One launch there. Actually the price for me would be even lower, because of the VAT refund for being a foreign.

You all know the "official" Sony Brazil PS4 costs 4.000 Reais (1,789 Dollars), but you can find computer and game stores selling for prices like 1.600 and 1.800 Reais (between 715 and 805 Dollars). So the price itself is a already a great opportunity, even if there's nothing really that exciting for the console so far. So my only concern would be reliability. How's the PS4 so far in that area?

Another important thing is that the PS4 box isn't big. Seems just like a regular notebook retail box. But what about the weight? The Destiny game comes in a physical disc instead of just a digital download code, so even if i don't like the game i can just sell it.

I know that the european PS4 wouldn't play Blu-ray discs for the region A, but i already have a Blu-ray player for movies. The PS4 being a region free console, like the PS3, it's the most important here. Also i've read that the Glacier White Destiny console already has some internal revisions, with a different Wi-Fi antenna ands bluetooth improvements. Any ideas of any other changes?

Anyway, what do you think, should i get it? Or just save the money for next year? Honestly i wasn't really planning to buy a "next gen" console this year, was thinking more like by middle 2015. But the opportunity might be interesting.

You get what you pay for really, a Limited Edition console. It seems on one hand you make the realistic choice, save up some money, put it towards other things and in the mean time hold out to see how each console develops. On the other hand, you buy it now, enjoy the spanking white console and play Destiny on release. I guess if you aren't too bothered about the Limited Edition console and you can wait till 2015 to play Destiny then that's what you should do, but if you just got to have it and can't wait to dive straight in then I'm sure you'll enjoy the purchase. It seems to be the price that persuades you so judge how you feel about what you're actually getting in the package and I'm sure you'll find your answer, just because the price is good doesn't always mean you should go out and buy it.

Buy it, I bought one. Make me feel less guilty :p

Is voltage an issue between Europe and Brazil? I know for PS3 it had built in power adapters so it was a non issue from 100v-240v. I haven't looked if PS4 is the same.

    Thanks for the reply.

I've read the whilte color won't be exclusive to the Destiny bundle. I've never bother with limited editions anyway. As for the game, i've been watching some videos of Destiny, was a bit surprised it's online only. I never really got into Halo, have no idea what to expect really.

I still have a couple of weeks to decide, will actually think about it, specially for spending that ammount of money. The price is definately a factor here, just need to decide if it's really that important.

Thankfully no, since most electronics these days use full range power adapters. So anything with a full range power supply / charger, it works worldwide.

I have a digital camera, a WDTV media player and a PSVita, all bought in Europe. The PS4 is just like that as well: https://www.ifixit.com/Teardown/PlayStation+4+Teardown/19493

Even the plug that comes with these electronics, the Europlug TypeC (unearthed) is compatible with the Brazilian plug standard.

PS: Even though most stuff these days have full range power adapters, it's important to check the specifications before buying. Some specific electronics / appliances still use a particular fixed voltage power adapter for safety.

I think you should buy it. I preordered mine as soon as the Sony E3 conference was over last year. Amazon shipped on the launch day and I got 4 days after. My console worked for a month but then it wouldn't turn on again. I contacted Amazon and they shipped me a new console and I return the broken one. My second console is perfect, I never had any problem with it. My brother also got a PS4 console for Christmas that I bought for him in November/December and it also never showed any problem. I would say the PS4 is a pretty reliable console.

You are also going to save some money that you can spend on more games since PS4 games are a bit expensive here in Brazil. To tell you the truth, I don't see a reason for you not to buy the console. It may not have a lot of games right now but the ones that it has will keep you busy untill next year when there will be more new games to play.

You can't get a VAT refund over the Internet - you'd have to be in the country, and you have to buy from a shop that participates in the voluntary VAT Retail Export Scheme. That's the situation in the UK, anyway.

You might well be charged the appropriate duty in your country, too.... e.g. whatever your sales tax is, at least.

That's the way to go... but I wouldn't bother right now, personally. Unless you really must have a particular limited edition, for some reason.

Prices always come down. I'm not that excited about the software that's out at the moment. And it's pretty much a PC. In fact, if you're going to buy a PS4 and an Xbox One, you might as well just buy a gaming PC!

Amen! I see no reason for buying the console this Gen because I just built a new computer with a 780 ti and not too many games really intrigue me only Destiny does.

Honestly put, I would likely wait as the white PS4 isn't exclusive to that bundle.

Then again, knowing what happens every time I buy a console, it'd be announced that it's due for a price drop in a week.

I had a thought about even buying an Xbox One, but now decided to upgrade the PC instead with a R9 280X and a new PSU. I'll get more use out of my PC than the Xbox One right about now.

Games I'm interested in won't be coming out till late next year anyway.

So if I was to give my opinion one whether to wait or buy now, there's no harm in waiting, the price will come down as they do through time. They'll also be bundles and packs later on down the line too. Which was a good idea for the Wii U as there was MK8 bundle which saved me a bit of money.

Thanks for all the replies, but i think some of you guys didn't understand what the topic is about. Being a gamer in Brazil makes you see some things from a different perspective. You guys in US and Europe are used to get good deals on games and PC parts, but it's not the same case around here. If i decide to go ahead and buy it, it won't be just because a "PC or Console" decision. Actually, it's almost like an investment decision.

The official PS4 sold by Sony of Brazil costs 4.000 Reais. On the "grey market" it's about half that price (sometimes a bit lower). That is for the base console, with no bundled game. I have no idea if the price will get lower on the near future, specially on how fucked up the economy is and how stupid the government is. There's an presidential election next October, have no idea how that will turn out. Things can get better or worse.

Anyway, i have the opportunity to buy the console now with a full priced game, with a 50 Euros discount (399,99 euros instead of 449,99). That's something around 1.170 Reais, not counting the VAT refund. That sounds like a no brainer deal, but it's not. That's why i asked about the console reliability (so far), if the new revision changes anything else, box size and weight (as it will be another person that will bring it for me)...

If i like it, i can keep it and then have saved money for the next year (i was planning to buy it after 2015 E3). If i don't, i can sell it and get my money back.

The doubt as the topic name suggests is: Spend a considerable ammount of money now, managing a great deal (by Brasil standards) or save the money and see what happens in 2015.

As for PC gaming, my rig built in early 2012 is probably outdated (2500K @ 4.0Ghz, GTX560OC, 4GB Ram @1600mhz) but it wasn't built to be a high end set anyway. Since most of my PC gaming purchases are Steam sales and humble bundles that's not much of a problem. I was even surprised that it handled Metro Last Light perfectly.
