My cousin was wanting to purchase a new dreamcast, but he refuses to use ebay or any similar services. Anyone have an idea where he might be able to pick one up?
Local pawn shops are the best bet here in town (san antonio, texas). I just recently found a complete Sega Dreamcast for $20. You can usually talk them down if the item has been there for a while.
ahh, sorry about that, meant to mention he was looking for an ntsc one, preferably brand new or atleast mint boxed. We're both here in the middle of kansas(usa). And what is this 2001 you speak of?
Good luck with the "mint/boxed" Dreamcast hunt. They'll occasionally pop up on eBay, but they'll be at least $100. The newer US Dreamcasts are pretty resilient, from what I can tell. I bought one that was beat to shit, and it still works today (looks better, too, after a case swap and LED change).
I figured a new one would cost around $100 or so, way too much for him. I think I've convinced him that the dreamcast is a pretty resilient console, for the most part, and that a used one shouldn't give him any trouble. I've owned two used ones myself, and never had any problems(though if I remember correctly the new one I got in nov of 99 started having problems with the drive about a year later.)
Mines a Sept 99 model. Never had real issues with it every. Hasn't been played much in the last 3 years but it was practically daily for its intial few.
