Well i am thinking to buy a PS3. I have found locally one, very cheap but it is a fat 80gbyte model. Should i avoid the fat one and go for a slim one? I am worried because as an extra in the bundle there is an external fan for cooling the ps3, reminding me that the fat ones had the ylod problem. The slim units have also the ylod issue? I really want to buy it because it is a backwards compatible model and it is a feature that i might need in the future.
if your really that worried about getting a fat model, trying looking out for a slim that can be downgraded so that you can run cfw on it, itll let you run all your games of a harddrive, PS1+2+3 and PSP, emulators the lot
Ok, i guess i can remove them. The price is very low plus couple of games and second third party controller. Do the fat ones break eventually or it might not happen?
I don't think there is a problem with them. I bought one almost new CECHCxx model about a year ago from a collector and I can say that it runs good. It has done more than 12 hours of continous gaming in a day and no marks of heating. Just set the console on a dust free place with a lot of space the breath so it doesn't circulate the warm air!
If it doesn't look abused, I say go for it. The YLOD is much less common than the RROD for the 360, so there's a good chance that your console is going to work for many more years. And if it does get the YLOD,just reball it and you will have a very reliable system.
Reballing usually cost 40$-60$ or 35-50 punds. It mostly depends on the place. Basically it costs the same as a brand new, just released retail game.
