So I've been thinking about what to do with my Wii U and Wii I have back in Australia. A friend has just offered to buy my Wii U from me, which means I wouldn't need to send my old one over. However, since I want to play my games in English, I wouldn't be buying a Japanese replacement. I was thinking I'd get an American one, which not only would have the correct voltage, but games tend to be cheaper in America and released in a more timely fashion than PAL regions. The question is how to get one. Sure, Amazon has them for good prices and they'll ship to Japan. Only thing is, they're gonna charge $150+ in shipping which seems bananas for just one console. Do you guys have any advice on this? Like, can you suggest a different store that has more reasonable shipping or something? The next question is what happens to my current saves and data from my current Wii U. It sounds like the "Transfer title and data" function would allow me to restore my system on my new Wii U, I could have someone in Australia do that for me than copy the contents of the SD card to the internet and then I can put it on an SD card and then copy it back to my new Wii U, assuming Nintendo doesn't do something to prevent this. And if this works for the Wii U, what about the original Wii? I've heard that the Wii can be easily soft-modded to make it region-free, which would mean that it would make more sense to pick up a Japanese Wii since they're so abundant and dirt cheap here and make it region-free so I can play my PAL games. However, I'd need to update the console so I can get the Nintendo Network stuff, which begs the question: do the soft mods work on the latest Wii system update? And is it even possible to transfer data (including Nintendo account) to a different system? I know you can copy saves to an SD card, but what about other stuff?
Why not just get a used one from the US, and someone here help send it to you? Or if ask a seller if they'll ship to you?
That's also a good idea. I suspect that even if I had an Amazon order sent to someone here and had them post it to me, it would still end up being less total
That's also a good idea. The spanner in the works would be if Nintendo intentionally did something dickish like prevent system transfers between PAL and NTSC consoles.
That's a possibility. I would say, get a Wii locally, sure many hard-off stores would have stacks of them. Then softmod it.
That's what gave me the idea, I was in hard off and saw the piles of cheap Wiis! There's probably loads on YA too. Any idea if it's possible to get access to your Nintendo Network account on a different Wii? It's been awhile since I last played the Wiiso I'm not sure if it got an update similar to what the 3ds go where they added in the Nintendo Network functions. About soft modding, how seamless is it? I've heard that you need to fiddle around when you want to play a different region game and your home screen gets cluttered up with weird channels. I'm looking for something that will let me play imports while keeping the system looking stock, might that be more the domain of a modchip maybe?
Amazon doesn't offer free overseas shipping? I know when I got a UK blu-ray it shipped to the States for free.
Maybe they occasionally do for some items, but in a lot of cases, it's hard to even find items that they'll ship internationally, let alone for a good price.
Wii doesn't use the Nintendo Network. They never released a public transfer utility, all Wii to Wii license transfers were personally handled by Nintendo.
Damn. Will the SD save transfer work at least? I've heard there's issues with using a PAL save on an NTSC game, is there a simple fix for this? For the Wii U, which does use the Nintendo Network, can I simply log in in the new console to get access to my stuff? In the event that I can't do a PAL to NTSC system transfer, I could at least copy across the save data then access my stuff by logging in to the Nintendo Network. Okay, I've found that I can get a US version of the Mario World 3D Deluxe set for $US424.89 including delivery from Play Asia. Let's see if we can get a comparison for getting one from Amazon with double-handling. On Amazon, they have the Mario Kart 8 & Nintendoland bundle for $US347.50 including shipping to the US. So how much would shipping to Japan be in that case? It weighs 10.2 pounds, any idea how much both of the AC adapters weigh so we minus their weight from the package? And how much total would shipping be?
Certainly not free. I've never once had this happen. Amazon are picky, and annoying when it comes to shipping.
It won't log in elsewhere, without a successful transfer. Nintendo Network IDs are locked to one system.
I'm certain that it won't work with the saves, even if the system was region free, you'd still have multi region saves on your Wii/WiiU. However, if you want a Wii U I happen to live in America and work for The UPS Store. So I may be able to help you out, in some way.
I've contacted Nintendo, but no response yet. Here's a guy converting a save from NTSC to PAL using the Dolphin emulator: https://gbatemp.net/threads/converting-xenoblade-save-from-ntsc-u-to-pal.363417/ Surely the reverse would be possible? Yeah, I think that would be help, VIRACY! Using the info I posted above, how do you think shipping costs would compare?
Saves you probably won't be able to transfer, but I was mainly talking about your Nintendo Account on the system.
Okay, I've contacted Nintendo America who claim that not only can you not do a system transfer between different region systems, but you also can't even log into your Nintendo Network account on a different region system! Does anyone know if this is really the case?
