i go to the swapmeets about twice a week. here is san diego we have a lot of weekend game resellers that just obliterate the pickings. they shop the one time sellers before the swapmeet doors even open, usually buying every thing these people have. then by the time they let us goobers in, we have no chioce but to buy from the resselers at a super inflated rate. im not mad about this, i understand its business. but the resellers usually dont keep games together with their corresponding manuals. all these manuals end up in a box somewhere under a table or something. i started buying these boxes practically sight unseen for next to nothing. they say that they usually just throw them away. sometimes i can find manuals for things i need, other times i can find a gem or two, but i usually just end up bogged down with stacks of paper. in all i find it worth while because im not breaking the bank, and there are usually posters or other things i can find useful. today i found a FF2 manual to go along with my boxes ff2 with no manual. that was worth the few bucks i gave the guy alone. am i the only one that does this? judging by the amount of resellers with boxes of this stuff, i think i am.
I would if I could, I am in need of so many manuals, people in the UK seem to throw them away for no reason then trade the games in. I hate people lol
Happens here in Australia, let alone people throw out cases, and the manual and trade the disc only.. Idiots!!
Back in the 90s I used to visit this one flea market where a lot of game 'booths' (is that the correct term?) were. One of them sold nothing but game manuals, had literally thousands of them, in ABC order by system too. Haven't seen anything like it sense. Always figured if I did though I'd buy up everything they had
I love buying large, cheap lots of manuals whenever I can. I love to pay a dollar or less per manual, but unfortunately I've only really had luck doing this for the Atari 2600 -- other systems are usually more expensive. I don't collect boxes for most cart systems (except Intellivision and Genesis/SMS/32X), but manuals help maintain some kind of connection to the original packaging and "feel". And of course it's nice knowing how to play the game!
I don't do that, simply because manuals in bulk lots seem to be damaged most of the time because they are not stored inside a game box. In addition, all the games I buy are boxed so I don't need loose manuals anyway.
Does anyone happen to have a Persona Revelations manual NTSC-U? It's almost impossible to find manuals in European countries for import games.... I would really love to buy manual lots if i could, but retro vg shops here tend to have only games (complete or not) and no spare manuals to buy.
Around these parts the flea market is terrible. Berkeley's open air market isn't too bad but it's mostly hippy stuff. Hippy as in home made wares. Most of it geared towards the locals for obvious reasons. Never really saw anything gaming related.
Yeah CD systems don't get much love there... Especially the disc labels. I'd sure be more interested in PSX and PCE fan translations with a half decent look.
