Most of us have limited fund to buy games and hardware (either now or in the past) and sometimes must make tough decisions. In hindsight, we sometimes regret that we bought one game when we could have gotten something better. I am not just talking about missing the chance to buy something that ended up worth a fortune. Rather, I am talking about missed fun. I can only think of two instances for myself right now: 1) Passed over Final Fantasy II/IV in favor of SimCity on the SNES. 2) Bought Stinger (Twin Bee 2) instead of Castlevania for the NES. Next?
Never ! I'm not that stupid. I did once pay 68 pounds for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in Time on the SFC when it was brand new. Everyone said it was shite after I bought it which made me feel sad for wasting so much cash. Happy ending though because I actually like the game once I played it for myself. The lesson is, never go on what other people say unless it's obvious  Yakumo
Years ago one of the local Blockbusters here had a used copy still in the box of Final Fight Guy for 5 dollars. I ended buying WCW SuperBrawl instead. What was I thinking...
I was going to start a similar thread about items you regret NOT buying. I once passed up on a Casio PV-1000 with about 10 games for $20. It was in a game shop and I had no idea what it was at the time....
I regret selling my N64+ about 30 fully boxed and completegames, all really damn good and in great condition! Sold it all for about £80 back in 00 or so because i wanted a mobile phone OH:
That's actually not that big of a mistake. It may not be as in "demand" as PDS, but House of the Dead for the Saturn had a suprisingly low print run. -hl718
There was that one time when I didn't get SOTN and I don't recall what I got instead, but it was seriously shitty. Back in the early PSX era, when they were getting rid of SNES game at the store, I didn't get FF6 (complete, w/box) because I needed the cash to get "Wild Arms". I eventually got their last FF6 cart, but it was unboxed. It was a hell of a lot cheaper, that's for sure. I also regret selling Vandal Hearts, ThunderForce V and Alundra, the first one to get FF8 which is now dirt cheap, and the other two, to get newer, but not so good PSX games. Being young and short on cash, in need of your new gaming fix really increases the chances of bad decision making. Still, I really miss those days when I was 16 and even those games would bring great excitement to one's life and everything was new.
I hesitated to buy Arc the Lad collection when it first came out. I had to sell all my N64 stuff to make enough money to buy a copy later. During that time, however, I didnt have hardly any N64 stuff left, since I had a habit of selling other N64 games and the like to buy other ones, and eventually dwindled my collection down because of BS prices. I'd do anything for money back then to get a game, though. This decision has haunted me ever since I did it. (In some ways more than others.) I also hesitated to buy Final Fantasy Anthology. I gave up my copy of Xenogears to get it. I have another copy of Xenogears now, though. I quit selling games a while back. (I sold two shitty games a few months back, though.) I got more patient for new games with age. Im also more comfortable with buying used games nowadays than I used to be, too.
$112.50 for a completely new, sealed set of SMS 3d glasses. The box is slightly yellow, has a cut in it like something was dropped on it and a label in spanish for importation. Not sure where exactly. Hoping its worth more than a Sega Nomad.... $120 for a p150 laptop that promptly had its internal fan die and I was stupid enough not to demand my money back. I was desperate for a laptop at the time and that seemed like a reasonable deal given the time constraints. Stupid, stupid, stupid. At least now I'll stick it in a wall and use it for a server. $30 for a copy of Super Mario RPG. Nothing wrong with that you say? WRONG! It was from gamestop online. Cart came, hard locked at first boss. Never figured out what was wrong and driving 20mi to a gamestop was out of the question. This being before ebay was insanely popular or I was using it. Gave it away to some kid in a Game Crazy when they were only going to give me $1.20 in credit. They gave it to me anyway and didn't notice.
I guess there was also that one time I traded in FF6, 7th Saga and Chrono Trigger for Mortal Kombat 3 on its day of release...(please, no screaming)
I bought a Multi Game Doctor 2 instead of a PC Dr. Junior. The price was just 200USD for a boxed system but I thought that it was too expensive. Nowadays it's nearly impossible to get a PC Dr Jr.
I bought Frontier: First Encounters for about $5 a number of years ago and returned it after having it crash for the third time. I'm still looking for a decently priced copy... This is America, by the way, and American copies seem to be considerably harder to find than the European version. I are retardeded... I convinced my friend to buy a copy of Mortal Kombat Advance (brand new - $40)... Man, I still won't let him forget that...
I would say probably selling all the 64 stuff I had as well as dreamcast stuff. All of it was boxed complete. Project justice goes for ridiculess amounts these days.
Should've bought Suikoden 2 for $10 at Sears years ago way before they became insanely overpriced for what it goes for now. Also, regret selling Hoshigami: Ruining Blue Earth. That game was alright.
Get ready with the bricks, fire & pitch forks. I forgone bidding on a Sega ST-V jamma dev / test unit on ebay for a xbox360. The St-v dev board ended for much less then what I paid for my 360. WHY WAS I SO DAMN STUPID!! I have never since seen an arcade dev / test unit.
Got a Datel mp3 player for my GBA SP. I don't remember how much it costed me, but it sure as hell wasn't worth it. Quality was shit, volume was low. The only thing I enjoyed about it, was bein able to make your own skins. I made Cadillacs & Dinosaurs one based on the deafult grey skin and Mariko's Quiz, made from scratch. I somehow managed to delete the last one, which took forever to make, and was so pissed I never used that piece of crap again.
