I used to know an asian website which had instructions for hacking sky boxes and satelite dishes to get any channels and services. Need less to say 3 weeks after the tutorials went online they got DMCA'd
Cable does suck of course but indeed they do have the best speeds in most of the cases for some of us folks like for me, If I wanted high speed blazin' fast internet in my town which is in the middle of BFE. Charter would be the only option since that's the only provider that goes over a measly 1mbps which is what I'm on at the moment with my DSL (Digital Shit Line) provider but hey I chose to go with them since they're not so lazy and wide open like Hollywood whores as most cable providers notoriously are known to be like that.. Back in the old days I could simply hook up a ole modem and get it right online and rape the shit out of them for giggles and shit 32mbps while their most fastest speed they "officially" gave out was 3-5mbps. Today such thing is still doable. But slowly a few of the providers are catching on and finally wisin' up! But some like Charter aren't doing a damned thing about it since they feel that they don't need to be responsible for Theft of Service acts committed on their network. Even tho I'm sure this affects the legit subscribers & customers of theirs but yeah they don't give a fuck, they'd rather cry foul and have uncle same and the Feds come in and do all the work for them. When it could only take a very simple few steps at the CMTS Console to disable and kill off TOS completely. They're also wasting our resources to wipe their asses with? What the fuck man?! It's all about money they want to squeeze the fuck out of everyone possible. They will offer ultra low prices for the first x amounts of months just to lock you in and then shaft you right up the ass so hard you'll be bleedin' when you make the payments once these months are up. It sucks man I really wish the old provider that had control over the coax network in this town was still around cuz they weren't such Jews over their coax lines like now days you can't just hook up the coax to your TV and get access to the premium channels you have to get like a bullshit error-prone moxi box from Charter to just enjoy these premium channels like Showtime & HBO Etc... The provider before them left it on the coax and didn't have so much bullshit and options and features to just squeeze money out of your ass with. I myself will never subscribe to cable again. FUCK EM. I urge you to do the same
This was during the 80's to mid 90's way before the DMCA. Back then you could watch shows sometimes long before they officially aired when the networks beamed the shows to their local affiliates. You could also watch the backhaul of live events. That is the part of a live feed that isn't shown usually because the network airing the event is running commercials. Backhaul was interesting because since the announcer, newscaster, ect was technically "off the air" they were sometimes a little more open/colorful about things.
I prefer Insight Communications Company, they're my ISP. They provide my cable, internet, and phone, all good quality and excellent service. They don't throttle your internet for any reason, and don't really bother monitoring you unless someone complains to them about you uploading something. Even then, they just warn you and tell you to whatever you want, just don't upload illegal stuff.
Fun Fact: In Japan, commercial real estate must be returned in the state in which it was rented, even if the next renter desires to take it as-is. Talk about a racket.
As a former Cox customer in the south, I say fuck 'em. We were paying about 200/month when we had roommates here. Apparently Cox decided that instead of just adding an outlet to one room, that they should set up a completely new line. I'm talking straight from the room to the tap. I know it sounds ridiculous, because it is. We were of course charged for expanded basic TWICE. Luckily, our city's utility company started their own fiber optic network shortly after. And it's dirt cheap. No outages, more channels, way faster internet, and $130 cheaper per month. Cox is feeling the heat and offering prices like $60/month phone/internet/expanded basic with, get this, a 2-year service agreement. Like they're a fucking wireless carrier or something. The city's fiber network has kicked ass, and I've told everyone I know to switch over. I haven't heard one complaint yet. So yeah, do yourself a favor and go with Fios.
Fuck tha TV: get the best internet service you can afford and hulu that shit to your LCD. I'm not hot about 3G either: now every fucking company is going limited, what am I supposed to do with the top tier 5GB per month plan? its actually cheaper to get unlimited prepaid!
