Long story short, I deviated to collecting software, mostly 3d modeling stuff. I'm on the quest to own atleast a single version from every known piece of 3d modeler and related software (too bad im poor af :D).

Anywho, amongst a lot of research, GameSpace is something that came up, which I've never heard about before. It's a specific version of TrueSpace, catered to game modeling, and apparently the content for Drakan was created with it.

Now the catch, which is why this here is interesting, is that the creators partnered up with the devs of Milkshape, and added native support for quake, ut, half life, etc. There used to be a 'demo' verion of the software called GameSpace Light, which I've managed to find, but it's feature set is limited, not to mention nearly all the import/export formats are missing.

Has anyone ever seen a copy of the full version of GameSpace anywhere? Reading through a lot of archived sites, it's apparent that there were physical copies of the software, but I couldn't find a single reference image or anything of the sort.

Meanwhile Caligari also used to sell that 'extra' game format support as a plugin pack for TrueSpace, called gamepak. I'm wondering if that was solely a download or it existed in physical form too.

Additionally, older TrueSpace versions were bundled with gaming magazines as promotions, 2.0, 3.2, 3 SE, 4.3. so those are easier to get in a sense, but couldn't find out if either GS, GSL or any of the gamepaks ever ended up in them.

I did however magically manage to secure a boxed copy of 4.2 (still waiting for it to arrive), but I lucked out on that one, as I can't seem to find even the slightest hint of any other copy of TS being sold around, unless it's a magazine bundle.

#edit: damn, misspelled TrueSpace in the title, lol

Oh man, I LOVED TrueSpace. Made a lot of small concepts in my teens, messed around with animation and fluid dynamics and such. There was an export plugin for DarkBASIC back in the day, I was obsessed with remaking scenes from Final Fantasy VIII (badly) to help me learn games dev.

GameSpace was something on my wish list for some considerable time, I'd used the trial to death and had the order form on my desk ready for when I could afford it. I never did, though.

My memory might be hazy, but I believe there was a 3D World (or similar magazine) specific trial which contained a few completed models from a series of tutorials they ran. One of them was a very FFIX-looking airship. Shame, I threw them out very recently when I moved house :(

There's still a lot of plugins online, and quite a few people are still using TS, because it's free and not that hard to understand compared to blender (seen a lot of neat animations and renders with it, also quite a few blitz engine fans still go at it).

Found this issue of 3d World, probably the one you're talking about.

Anywho, my version turned out to be 4.0 instead of 4.2, not a major difference though. I'm more surprised that the manual it comes with is almost as thick as a phone book, and there's actual useful information in it... I got the book 'Inside TrueSpace 4' off of amazon too, and man, it's even thicker, lol. This is quite some fun stuff.
