I know there is no point in modding a Wii Mini due to other Wii's being available for dirt cheap prices. But that design. It's so cool it's like something straight out of the 90's plus i like modding and i'm wondering if it is possible to put a GCVideo Board into a Wii Mini. It works on the Wii and the GCN. So i'm wondering if the Wii Mini can also be modified with GCVideo or some other similar HDMI board.
the hardware is pretty much the same. IDK GCVideo but the Wii-Mini also uses the same AVE-RVL Audio-/Video-Encoder, so it shouldn't be an issue.
I wonder if the signals to enable 480p support are still there. If they are, how would one enable 480p?
damn.. i didn't know of that.. why on earth would they do that?! <.< So they didn't expose the "Mode"-Pin of the GPU to the AV-Port.. wonder if the via still exists.. or they even patched it out in software.. ... The Mini is a pitiful console ...
AFAIK the 480p option is completely gone from the Wii Settings along with the WiFi settings. Not sure if they changed the video encoder or not but from what I've read, it only outputs S-Video and Composite video from the multi out.
I did some experiments and this is what i found out: - The "Mode"-Via still seems to be present, but it doesn't work (might be patched out in software, too) - 5V & RGB is not wired to the AV-Port, but the AVE is still outputting some kind of video signal on the corresponding pins (not sure if it's RGB, i don't have anything to test it with) Conclusion: The Wii Mini still sucks..
So it could be like the SNES Mini where the encoder is there but the traces connecting to the AV out aren't present.
Looks like the HDMI mod will still be limited to 480i unless there is some way to replace the Wii Menu with one that has everything enabled still. Maybe a NAND replacement plus the HDMI mod? Enabling 480p might be more difficult though. I don’t know much about this so I could be completely wrong. Just some speculation with the info I read here.
Can't replace nand. It's contents are encrypted per console. You need the key, which you count get without running homebrew first. Which you can't do. Could do cpu swap and nand swap with one you have keys for though.
