Hi. I have wanted one of these units for a long time. I LOVE the way the console looks, in my opinion its in the top 3 best looking consoles ever made. How are the graphics on them? Do they run cds and carts? I ask that because one im watching is ending in 9 days and its mint in box with a extra controller and some carts and cds. What should I expect to pay for one of these in working order (im in the states) and how good are games for it? Please let me know and thanks! :thumbsup:
your reffering to the "mini tower pcfx" that kinda looks like a mini pc? if so, there isnt a whole lot of games for it, mainly anime and hentai, along with alot of FMV stuff, though still a cool collectors item http://darkwatcher.psxfanatics.com/console/necpcfx.htm Ryan
Thats what im after. I dont really need it for the games but I just love the design of it. Totally screams performance to me lol. What should I be looking to pay for a unit in good working shape?
You are mistaken. The number of adult games on the machine are fairly small (7 plus a double pack re-release of two of the games), with most of them being available cheaper on other platforms (Saturn and 3DO). You could buy a Saturn and a copy of Super Real Mahjong PV and a number of the other 'Hentai' games just to buy Super Real Mahjong PV on the PC-FX... If you want a Hentai Machine then the PC Engine, Saturn or the king the FM Towns Marty would be better choices... The PC-FX is a nice machine, but with about half a dozen games which are playable and about 3 which are good and are quite expensive. It's a machine which looks nice but isn't going to get a lot of play.
If your have some self control you can find one in the U.S. on eBay for about 100.00 plus about 25.00 shipping. They pop up about once every 5-6 weeks from people here and you don't have to pay the insane parcel from Japan. Be patient and classify your search to USA or Nearest and you'll eventually find one for a reasonable price....I've had mine for a couple of years and you shouldn't expect to find dozens of playable (non Japanese language intensive) titles. It does however look extremely cool next to your other systems... -J

The PC-FX is a great machine for Shooters and platformers! You'll have so much fun that you'd wonder why you ever bothered with the Playstation or Saturn. You have such a great choice too... for shooters you have the fairly average looking Tyoushin Heiki Zeroigar and if you get bored of that then you can load it up again and pretend it's another shooter... or plug in a Megadrive and play nicer shooters... For platformers well you have the wonderful (if slightly perverted introduction of panty shots of sub teenage girls, I wouldn't play this game when your mother is visiting or any mothers too for that matter...) Chip Chan Kick, which is the biggest reason to own a PC-FX it's such a great Taito like platformer. If you decide you don't need your second kidney then what better way to celebrate then to buy Kishin Doji Zenki: Vajura Fight! It is a platform run, jump, fighting game. I think it's fairly average myself but some people rave about it (well they have to if they spent that much money on it, the Neo Geo owners that own Chibi Maruko Chan on Home Cart tend to keep quiet about things like that...). If you can't afford any of the above then Ruruli Ra Rura is an interesting game, it's action and platformy and has some nice anime and er... fancy a cup of coffee? If you want sports games and you love Baseball and Wrestling then you're in luck as there is Super Power League FX and All Japan Womans Pro Wrestling: Queen of Queens. If you like other sports games then just change the rules and make Football like Baseball and Boxing like Wrestling,choose an ugly women, fiddle with the contrast and viola Mike Tyson. If you understand Japanese and like games where you have to make informed choices to continue then you're laughing too. Did I mention the 3DO? Lovely little machine...
Let me just say, they are all right.. the games suck big time!!! the only thing worth while playing for me was the shooter zeroigar en platformer zenki.. the rest is either crap or unplayable for non japanese (chip chan kick sucks too! sorry) I had some 'minutes' of fun trying to undress the ladies in can can bunny dx but with all the japanese text it was mission impossible! on the other side the console looks cool and the games (all 64 of them are 'easy' to collect because there are only 64 expect to pay 100 plus for zenki en zeroigar though most other games go for around 10/20 bucks... I still don't understand what NEC was smoking when they decided that the machine would only carry anime games but ok PS: it does play CDR so you can basically download all the games you want to test (PM me if you need some pointers on how to do that) And for the ultimate pc-fx resource visit: http://www.pcenginefx.com/PC-FX/
This must be the guy that invented the console! allthough stoned people might come up with something better I just wished they would of released that bomberman 10 on the pc-fx, that would of made the machine a little more worthwhile 'playing wise' because most of the games are just too sad to be true.. but a big amine/rpg fan understanding some japanese might find them fun I just play them for the obscurity or challenge like (how to play an unreadable text game) but the RPGs/sims are just unplayable. If you dont speak a word of japanese you might find about 2 or 3 games playable and maybe 10 more that might be if you put your time and effort in it. Allthough if you read the pcenginefx.com website it would make you believe this console is heaven on earth be warned it's really shit software wise
That's unfair, there are more then 3 playable games even if you can't understand Japanese... I think playable means "enjoyable to play, and understandable". There are loads of unplayable games, even with Japanese literacy.
WOW, if it boots CD-Rs then its over. I will have one now lol. I love things that boot CD-Rs ^^ That will give me a chance to play games before buying them and hunting them down, unless Blockbuster still rents them? Anyone?
The problem will be finding them, it's not the most searched for on the net as you can imagin ;-) And blockbuster renting pc-fx games, did they ever do that?
Maybe I was unfair on that one, I actually didn't give chip chan kick a fair chance in the gameplay area, it was one of the first titles I had for the pc-fx and for the 32bit CD successor of the pcengine and it looked like a 8/16bit game totally not a showoff of the pc-fx.. kinda felt like the CD32 games in a strange way.. great FMV intro and then a 8 bit looking game. Maybe it's really a fun game to play if you're in to it but for me it just felt like a dissapointment. And on the playable thing, the thing is if you're not japanese, you don't speak japanese and you're not in to japanese things like anime this console sucks big time and you probably have 2/3 games that might be worth playing..
Well unless you bought the PC-FX new back in the Saturn / Playstation era then you probably have every right to be disappointed, esp with the large number of canceled games. If however you bought it cheap long after it was dead then you have no reason to complain, you knew what you were getting, a machine that had built in motion JPEG decoding and not much else and tons of anime games. Chip Chan Kick is a weird game, the only non hentai game made by Cybertech Custom... I still want to get Magical Block Carat on Windows 95, a columns like game featuring Chip and Chan from the above game. It's the only machine (and I have a lot....) that I don't have a Mahjong game on as the only one is too too expensive for what it is, I could buy the PC Engine, 3DO, Saturn and arcade board and still have change to buy a dozen PC-FX games for the cost of the game on the PCFX... :crying:
That probably explains why I never received mahjong when I won it on ebay for 15 euro, I had no idea it was so rare.. and the seller probably found out before sending OH:
