Hiya, a friend has a PSP that used to run a custom firmware, but she updated unintentionally to firmwar 6.60 and now everything's gone. I offered to help and reinstall the firmware, but I have no idea how to do it under Mac OSX Yosemite. I can't seem to find any info on how to downgrade and hack the PSP except for under Windows (which I've done before). Any ideas?
I haven't done this in a long time but it seems as if the whole downgrade process is still happening on the PSP alone and doesn't require any specific OS. Look here: http://wololo.net/talk/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=12053 Just unzip and copy the files to the memory stick and do everything from there.
Yes, it's all done on the PSP alone. Use Chronoswitch Downgrader to downgrade it. What model is the PSP? If it's a 1000 or almost any 2000 there should be no reason to be under 6.60.
On models 3000 and up (and some 2000) the permanent patch cannot be installed for 6.60 and so you have to downgrade to 6.20 in order to have it permanently "modded". Otherwise you have to run the CFW patch everytime. I'm not certain if that's what ave is doing but that's the only thing I can think of.
If his console is an unmoddable one, then the firmware version doesn't matter; there will be no full CFW for it. Then he needs a LCFW (Lite CFW, which is a CFW without a modded IPL) for it, which 6.60LME fits the bill perfectly. If it's a moddable console, then he could just install 6.60ME. I don't remember if there was a 6.60ME installer that was signed. If not, then he needs to get 6.60LME first (or perhaps a Homebrew ENabler, if there's one for 6.60) before he can install 6.60ME. Regardless... it's got nothing to do with your Mac's OS. You just need to download the right files and to put them onto the PSP's memory stick to be run.
To be fair there is the perma patch for 6.20, Granted it's not as "bulletproof" as good ol' cIPL but for the average user it shouldn't matter. But yea I personally run 6.61 ME and LME on my systems so I would recommend that to OP.
Oh okay, there's that perm patch, no wonder. Thanks for clearing that up. I was thinking along the lines that there was no way for a CFW to exist without a custom IPL, but it seems like the perm patch uses an exploit to get kernel access during boot. Also, I was wrong about recommending 6.60ME. The latest is 6.61ME. 6.61 was that "famous" update by SONY that took place 3 years after the last one LOL.
It doesn't matter anyway regarding CFW. Most people keep their PSPs in standby mode anyway, and everybody's gotten to the habit of charging everything everyday. Just follow the guide to using 6.60LME and you'll be fine.
