Can I fit an auto-adjusting laser from a DTL-H30001E into an SCPH-10000?

Will it drop straight in? I figured it'd be pretty sweet if I can do it.

Also, whilst I am it will the 240V PSU board fit too? If not is there a 240V equivalent from a different Test unit or a retail PAL unit I can use?

Auto tilt adjust is a feature of the "B" type chassis (Boards type GH-004 and GH-005). There is no such thing as "auto adjust lasers" but answering your question, the 400B unit should fit perfectly on the 10000 as long the outer rim of the lens is white (old type laser).

It might require skew (little black screw on the laser arm) and tilt (huge screw at the drive body) adjusts for the DVD to work properly though.

The white ribbon used on the 10k units is pretty damn fragile so don't go "testing" many lasers on it as you risk breaking the ribbon up.

Hopefully this info is useful for you :)

Thanx for that. I'll have to have a look to see if it is an old-style laser in that case. Also were these laser units fitted to any retail PS2s? It'd be cheaper for me to canibalise one of those.

Any idea about a PSU board?

TEST (Debugstation) PS2s are just retail PS2s with a different mechanics controller (DVD drive CPU) and a debug BIOS. Hardware wise they're just retail PS2s. So the parts from a matching retail unit will go fine with them.

And yes, that idea of dismantling regular units to fix the Debugstations is awesome.

    Edit:
I forgot to mention that on PS2s with "auto tilt adjust" mechanism, once the laser is replaced the unit requires to be put on testmode and a SONY service program (running on a PC) with a serial cable attached to the DVD drive diagnosis port will be used to adjust (and save in it's EEPROM) the optimal adjust for the "auto tilt motor" with the new laser.
