Hello, Do I have to have the ps2 tool verzion hardware in order to program a ps2? Meaning if have the ps2 scph-39001 model, I'am wondering weather its programble. I think I also need the chip manual in order to program the chip or can't program the chip even if I want to correct? and I think I need the dev licence don't I? at least thats my understanding.
Any PS2 is programmable, technically You might want to look up PS2dev.org to get you started. It doesn't appear (no offense) that you're too experienced with console development though, so starting with PS2 might not be the easiest route to take.
Alternatively, if you don't want Linux, get it to play burned discs/run code from the memory card and use PS2link, pukklink or naplink. That way you'll have to program on the PC and upload the code to the PS2, whereas with PS2 Linux you actually use the PS2 to write code.
The ps2 Linux kit is very diffcult to find and quite expensive if you find it! I have found 1 kit for over $300 but given the hardware being as old as it is, I doubt I will move ahead with this project. That doesn't mean I can't, maybe try something else, it just means it may not be the ps2. One apparently has to have the cpu manual in order to program the ps2 chip other than that I can't see how one could program the chip, without MODDING? which I wasn't planning on doing, nor will I. I'd still like to learn assemble though. Thanks for the input guys really like it! ;-)
