Hi there guys. Last week I softmodded my white Wii and, since there are homebrews to access the GC memory card, I got myself wondering: is there any kind of FreeMCBoot for the Gamecube? Well, can it boot .dol or .elf files anyway? I really don't plan anything fancy with it, I just want to take the dust off my black cube. Even a "Hello World" screen would make me happy! Cheers guys! BONUS QUESTION: Is the NGC BB adapter any good?
Not on their own no (at least to my knowledge). http://code.google.com/p/swiss-gc/ A single modchip can change that quite nicely.
Very specific limited uses. A few LAN games, some homebrew, PSO private server (I don't know if populated enough now)... But what it does is exclusive! Wii removed the expansion port. Breaking all compatibility with all features of GC games which require a modem and/or BB adapter
Could always wire up a BBA to the Wii memcard slot 2 and patch PSO to use that port.. but lets not get off topic The methods to boot GameCube homebrew on a "softmodded" Wii are many, however, none of them include booting from a Memory Card .. the method usually consists of IOS hacks that load a DOL from front-sd after booting the Wii into GameCube mode.
So I'd have to solder my cube heh? Planning on getting a beaten and cheap NGC only for those experiments then... Oh, I bought a WiiSD Memory Card adapter that will no use as it is then. :-( Thanks guys
The important change is getting that US-JP switch working. I believe no known GC mod chip, boot disc, homebrew, patched ISO, or otherwise has been attempted to fix compatibility issues some Japanese games have when forced to run in the English operating system they weren't designed for. A softmod (system menu change?) should work on Wii however. As much as I haven't seen anyone try a JP GC game on a Wii hacked in such ways, to confirm that. Its OS structure is far more flexible to mess with.
