I am unsure where to create this thread so I apologize if it is in the wrong section and feel free to move it.

There is a group of players that play Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 (UMK3) arcade competitively and we have come across a glitch that ruins the game. The player can hold block while they are pressing high punch repeatedly which allows them to attack while they can block at the same time. Can anyone on AssemblerGames.com modify the code to this game? It would most likely only need to be a very small edit that does not allow the block input to be accepted while the player is punching. If anyone can do this please contact me via this thread or PM. If you know someone who can do this and can get me in contact with them that would also be great. If none of the above but you think you may know where I can ask (another forum perhaps?) I also welcome the input. Thanks a lot and this is an awesome forum.

Not that I can really help, but I would think block would take precedence over punching. As in, you shouldn't be able to punch while holding block, not the other way around.

Yeah and that is kind of the problem in a nutshell. Your character remains in the punching animation but they have all of the properties of a blocking character too. So if you are hit you just got directly into the block animation instead of taking damage. It's really bad for the game but it might be fairly simple for someone to fix.

You're going to have to find someone that knows the TMS34010 CPU assembly, and that also can actually utilize the MAME debugger to figure out where to even write a patch for it. It sounds like if all the technical information was known and there was a good enough debugger it shouldn't be terribly difficult to fix. I'm kind of surprised that Midway never fixed it as the game had a few revisions. I wonder if they addressed it in the Wave Net edition?

Thanks for the info and would you happen to know where I could begin looking to find someone with those skills?
This was in Mortal Kombat all the way back to MK1 and was still in MK4. They never took it out because they didn't think it was a big deal and it only really is at a very high level of play due to it's speed. But once you get to that level the game is hardly worth playing anymore. It's not as big of a problem in MK1 & MK2 because there is no run button.

Maybe someone involved in MAME development that both likes Mortal Kombat and has cpu programming knowledge. But really you're looking for someone pretty specific since that CPU isn't that wide spread as far as I know.

You might head over to Pugsy's MAME cheat forum. I know there's been some work with 34010 hardware over there (Smash TV/Total Carnage, MK-UMK3, etc.) From what I've read on those forums, it sounds like the TMS34010 is a real pain to deal with when when it comes to reverse engineering code. The up side is that if the code modification is sorted out for one version, it should work on all 2D MK versions.

Too bad no one has been able to find whoever was behind the Zeus/Juggernaut hacks of UMK3.
