With the recent figures showing that Blu-Ray now outsells HD-DVD, I thought that I would purchase a PS3. I want a US one so that I can by US Blu-Ray movies (I'm in Australia, and we're always behind in releases). Whilst it's not the most important thing in the world, I was wondering if there are any people here who have a US PS3, but don't live in America. I want to know if it's possible to access the Playstation Store using a US PS3 from a non-US location. Also, because I will be using a credit card with an Australian billing address, those people who are in a non-US location but are using a credit card with a US billing address will probably not be a good indication of my chances of success. Anyway, I hope someone here can help me out. CRanga
I don't think they'll let you do it. The machine isn't meant to be used outside the US. As you say, your card and shipping address aren't in the US. When my friend had one, he had to set up his online account with a fake US address. If you want to buy US Blu-Ray movies, go to an import DVD specialist. I'm sure you'll have them over there. In the UK, I'd suggest playusa.com. You may be able to order from them (or play.com for R2). You can order from amazon.com too, which is American.
One way is to buy a visa / mastercard gift card (these are available in a number of American supermarkets) and use that to buy stuff, obtaining this could be tricky but I am sure you could ask an american member here to buy you a cheap one (they come in $20, $50 and $100 values). It does work as a friend used it to buy Tekken 5 and he lives in the UK, all you need to do is register an address, he used a hotel address...
So I went ahead and bought my PS3 even though the probability of being able to download games from the store is unlikely. I've heard that there's meant to be some sort of Playstation Card coming out soon in the US, which will be similar to the iTunes cards you can get. Has anyone heard a date when these might be appearing? And if so, do you think they would be available to be purchased and mailed to Australia (maybe on eBay, or here even?)
