From EventHubs. I for one simply LOVE the original and have it on various systems. Wish I could afford the MVS version right now but..um yeah, no. in a recent 4Gamer interview with the King of Fighters 14 development team, something very interesting was shared with readers. Sprites for the long since cancelled SNK fighter Garou Mark of the Wolves 2 were finally revealed. A sequel to the beloved Fatal Fury title was first mentioned back in 2005, and over the years there have been rumblings about its development. Unfortunately, the game never quite came to fruition. Today, however, we get to see what some of the characters were going to look like if the game had saw an actual release. The image below shows mainstay characters like Rock, Terry, and Tizoc, as well as some of the newer fighters who were set to join the battle.
Nice to see these but also a little sad to think it will never see the light of day. The first game was so good, well is so good I still play it regularly, same as you @Ashevent LOVE IT! I have the MVS version on the 161 multi cart but still want the original cart, one day.
I like the sprites, I'm a fan of that late 90s/early 2000s SNK neogeo sprite style. I would have enjoyed playing as these character in a Garou kinda game. None of the new characters look particularly wild or out there. I know SNK has recycled sprites for certain characters' moves into other characters before, I wonder if any of these characters' sprites were recycled into any of the post KOF2003 KOFs. The designs all look like they would have fit in well. Actually that guy in the white suit jacket underrneath Jae Hoon looks like his pose could have been derived from Jae Hoon! Similarly the guy in the orange jacket with black feathers looks like he is derived from a sprite of Omega Rugal (see below). Now for some more speculation: Girl with orange pants, third from left on the bottom row, looks like she could be doing capoira, perhaps she would have been related to Richard Meyer of Fatal Fury 1 or Bob Wilson of other recent Fatal Fury's. The guy in baggy pants in the bottom right corner, seems like his outfit and fighting pose seem to be in a similar Asian martial arts style to Gato's, perhaps he would be a rival of his. Guy in the middle on bottom row in black suit is giving me a similar vibe to Kain, probably because his head, torso and legs are all at similar angles and poses and he and Kain each wear sophisticated clothes.
Rumors speculated that more old-timers would have returned, such as Andy Bogard and Ryo Sakazaki (as Mr. Karate). Either the person interviewed didn't have sprites for them or it looks like they wouldn't have come back. The only two designs that I really dislike are the suits. I dunno, they're just very bland.
No, that was for different unreleased fighting game that was going to be a totally new franchise. That one made it much further than MOTE2. My hope is that they can find the original developers and someone finish that game. This game never made it much further than the drawing board.
This has been rumoured for years happy to finally get a confirmation. Would have loved a sequel back then but not anymore no doubt it would be 3D bs. I'm still a massive fan of sprites to this day.
I do have it on a 120-1 cart and the Dreamcast version but...would still Love the original MVS with marquee
